DHR-ICMR fellowship programme aims to provide advanced training in India to medical and health research personnel in cutting edge research areas related to medicine and health to create a trained human resource for carrying out advanced research activities.

Women Scientist Scheme

Fellowships for women scientists who’d break in career to bring them into the mainstream of health research.

A big proportion of women undertake bio-medical instruction at graduation, post-graduation and doctorate level. However, the current number of working women in biomedical research appears to be low compared to expected and has to be dealt with. The issues faced are several, but significantly, most frequently the”break in their careers” arises out of motherhood and family responsibilities. The option for the revival of their profession is currently unavailable because of restrictions in age and qualification without

a system at current addresses those issues. Under this scheme, women scientists will be encouraged to pursue research in identified regions of biomedical/ health research.

(A) Category of Scholarships:

There’ll be following two categories of fellowships, based on the qualification and experience of the applicants:

Category A: Women who are M.D./ M.S./ M.D.S. or MBBS/ BDS/ MVSc. / M.Sc. / M.Pharma/ M.Tech with Ph.D.

Category B: Women That Are MBBS /BDS or M.Sc. /M.Tech. /M.Pharma with just two years of clinical or research experience.

(B). Eligibility

i. Only Indian women citizen and presently unemployed and having qualifications prescribed for category A or category B will be eligible in the respective category.

ii. Having M.D./ M.S./ M.D.S. or MBBS/ BDS/ MVSc. / M.Sc. / M.Pharma/ M.Tech or equal with a PhD in the topic related to health research for the category- A.

iii. Having MBBS / BDS. or M.Sc. M. Pharma /M. Tech or equal. At least two years’ experience after the degree for the category -B.

iv. The woman scientist will be submitting the research plan in either of the identified areas through any medical college/bio-medical research institute under a single faculty member.

v. Candidate currently in a job or registered for PhD or with any other fellowship or support aren’t eligible.

vi. Candidate having research published in journals that are indexed will receive preference.

vii. Women of 30-50 years old as on the last date of receipt of application are eligible.

viii. Fellowship is to the applicant scientist and area-specific and can’t be transferred.

(C) Funding mechanisms

i. The fellow will submit a research proposal and will be working under the supervision of a regular faculty of a Research Institute.

ii.  Category A: A fellowship of Rs. 70,000/- a month (for medical persons) and Rs. 60,000/- pm for non-medical woman for a period of 3 years. A contingency grant to Rs.10.00 lakhs annually for example stipend will be given to meet the expenses of consumables/fieldwork associated work and also for attending the meetings, etc..

iii. Category B: A fellowship of Rs. 55,000/- a month (for medical persons) and Rs. 50,000/- per month for a period of 3 years. A contingency grant to Rs.10.00 lakhs annually for example stipend will be awarded to meet the expenses of consumables/field work-related work and for attending the meetings, etc..

iv. The amount (fellowship and contingency) will be released to the institute in favour of their Head and will be kept in a separate account.

v. The audited statement of accounts of this scheme, done by the’ statutory audit body’, will be obtained.

vi. Work of the fellow will be reviewed periodically by the expert group and will continue only after receiving the satisfactory report from the expert panel.
