The Wildlife Institute of India is an internationally acclaimed Institution, which offers
training programs for government and non-government personnel, academic courses and
advisory in wildlife research and management. The Institute is actively engaged in research
across the breadth of the country on biodiversity-related issues.

The period of the contractual engagement will initially be for a period of 01 (one) year,
which is most likely to be extended based on the candidate’s performance and project
needs. The EQ, DQ, age, monthly emoluments and other details of the position are as

General Conditions:

Mode of Selection:

  1. Candidates can apply for multiple positions if eligible. Please provide your

  3. Applications for positions of Project Associate – I, Project Associate – II and Senior Project Associate will undergo initial scrutiny based on essential qualifications
    and age limit and candidates who meet the same will have to write an online essay.
    Final shortlisting for online interviews will be done considering marks obtained in the
    essay writing, NET/ GATE qualification, percentage of marks in Bachelors and Masters, specialization relevance in Masters, research experience (Publications, Paper Presented in Workshops/ Seminars/ Symposiums/ Conferences) and extracurricular activities (as per WII rules).
  4. Shortlisting for candidates to be called for online interview of applications for positions of Post-doctoral Fellow/ Project Scientist – I will be based on essential qualification, age limit, NET/ GATE qualification, percentage of marks in Bachelors and Masters, specialization relevance in Masters, research experience (Publications, Paper Presented in Workshops/ Seminars/ Symposiums/ Conferences) and extracurricular activities. They need not write the essay.
  5. The link to write the online essay will be shared with the shortlisted candidates via
    email/ SMS. The time given to write the essay will be one hour and the essay will have to comprise about 400 words. The topic will be from the following broad subjects:
    Ecology, Conservation Biology, Sampling techniques, Life Sciences, Conservation
    Genetics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, GIS, Remote Sensing, Statistics, Road Ecology
    and their application in wildlife conservation and relevant conservation issues (100
    marks). Candidates who have applied for multiple positions will attempt one essay
    only. Detailed instructions about the procedure will also be communicated via email
    to the shortlisted candidates.

Terms & Conditions:

  1. Incomplete applications/applications sent by post/ late applications are liable to be
    rejected.
  2. Mere fulfilment of the minimum advertised qualification and experience
    requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be called for online
    essay test/interview. The decision of the Institute in all matters relating to
    eligibility, acceptance or rejection of the application, mode of selection will be final and
    binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained
    from any individual or his / her agency.
  3. All the steps of the recruitment process will be conducted by a duly constituted Selection Committee. However, if the number of applications received for a particular post(s) is large, then Institute reserves the right to lay down any criteria for the purpose of shortlisting the candidates for interview
  4. All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of joining for
    necessary verification.
  5. At the time of the verification of original documents or even after selection, if it is
    found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to wilfully conceal,
    misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection
    and due action will be taken.
  6. Relaxation in the upper age limit shall be allowed in accordance with the Government of
    India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of
    Personnel & Training) OM No.1501282/2010-Estt. (D) dated 27.03.2012 as amended
    from time to time. However, the categories of upper age relaxations are as follows:
    a. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes up to 5 years.
    b. Other Backward Class (OBC) up to 3 years.
  7. The positions advertised are purely temporary/ contractual for the project period
    only and will stand abolished after completion of the project.
  8. The tenure in the project will be governed by the Institute’s rules and regulations.
  9. After the announcement of the results, the candidate should join the project
    immediately.
  10. The Director WII, reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete
    information provided by the candidate or for any other reason thereof.

Essential Qualification: Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification: Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) spatial analysis and
ecological modelling, b) statistical analysis, c) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection c) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals

Work Description: The candidate will coordinate a multi-disciplinary team and conduct field research, surveys, data collection, analysis and report-writing.

Emoluments: Rs. 56,000 plus HRA


For Post II

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. AND
Minimum four (04) years of research experience in a relevant field after master’ degree is required. Publications in peer-reviewed journals in relevant fields.
OR
Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/
Environmental Sciences from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior experience of sampling using camera trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous fieldwork under rigorous conditions.

Work Description: The work involves field monitoring of tiger, co-predators and their prey
with techniques such as camera-trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry in
TATR, Pench TR, NNTR, Melghat TR, Bor TR, Umred WLS and Tippeshwar WLS. The objectives of this study include demographic trends of carnivores and prey species,
dispersal, and movement ecology of tigers.

Emoluments: Rs. 42,000 plus HRA


For Post III

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/
Genetics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University
AND
Minimum four (04) years of research experience in a relevant field after a Masters’ degree is required. Publications in peer-reviewed journals in relevant fields.
OR
Doctoral Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics from a recognized
University.

Desirable Qualification: Candidates with prior experience of working on non-invasive techniques of population genetics of wild animals. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous field work under rigorous conditions.

Work Description: The selected candidate will be working on the population genetics of large carnivores involving both lab and field work. The job involves training students for data generation from samples, performing analyses, and report writing.

Emoluments: Rs. 42,000 plus HRA


For Post IV

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. Candidates with a Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics and/or are pursuing or have completed their
PhD need not apply for this post.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior experience of sampling using camera trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous fieldwork under rigorous conditions.

Work Description:

  • The work involves field monitoring of tiger, co-predators and their prey with techniques such as camera-trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry in TATR, Pench TR, NNTR, Melghat TR, Bor TR, Umred WLS and Tippeshwar WLS. The objectives of this study include demographic trends of carnivores and prey species, dispersal, and movement ecology of tigers.
  • Ratel is one of the most elusive species. The ecology of the ratel is unknown in India and this project will be the first scientific study to understand their space use, movement, activity, and diet in Melghat TR.
  • This project will also study the movement ecology of Asiatic wild dogs in NNTR and
    interaction of dholes and tigers with respect to their niche partitioning (food, space and
    time).

Emoluments: Rs. 31,000 plus HRA


For Post V

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
AND

Work Description:

  • The work involves field sampling to assess the present status of large carnivores and
    prey in Pandharkawda, Bramhapuri, Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia, Jalgaon/Yaval and
    Chandrapur Forest Divisions.
  • The work involves developing a village-level database of human, livestock populations along with conflict information. The project aims to find threshold values of the human population, road density and habitat transformation parameters for coexistence with humans for the different large carnivore species. Evaluating the effectiveness and applicability of mitigation measures is part of the project.

Emoluments: Rs. 42,000 plus HRA


For Post VI

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
AND (for PA II)
Minimum two (02) years of research experience in a relevant field after a master’ degree is
required. Publications in peer-reviewed journals in relevant fields.

For PA – I: Candidates with a Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics need not apply for this post.
For PA – I, II: Candidates who are pursuing or have completed their PhD need not apply for this post.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior experience of sampling using camera trapping, distance sampling and radiotelemetry. Knowledge of GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous field work under rigorous conditions.

Work Description:

The proposed project aims to study the movement ecology of selected mammal species with different ecological adaptations across the IHR. The selected mammal species are Pallas’s cat (Otocolobus manul), Himalayan wolf (Canis lupus) and Himalayan marmot (Marmota himalayana). The work involves capture and tagging of target species and intensive monitoring in tough and rugged terrain of Ladakh India.

Emoluments:

  • PA – I: Rs. 31,000 plus HRA
  • PA – II: Rs. 35,000 plus HRA

For Post VII

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
AND
More than six (06) years of research experience after a Masters’ degree in the field related to road/ rail ecology. Publications in peer-reviewed journals in relevant fields.

Desirable Qualification: Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) spatial analysis and
ecological modelling, b) statistical analysis, c) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection.

Work Description: The candidate will lead a team and conduct field research, surveys,
data collection, analysis and report-writing. The project involves developing mitigation
measures for road/ railway infrastructure.

Emoluments: Rs. 56,000 plus HRA


For Post VIII

railway infrastructure. Field data collection along with the linear infrastructure projects, analysis
and report writing.
