CSIRO invites applications for top-up Postgraduate Scholarships in the Synthetic Biology Future Science Platform (SynBio FSP) in a number of priority topic areas for funding starting in 2019.
CSIRO’s Postgraduate Scholarship Program provides improved opportunities in
engineering and science for outstanding graduates enrolling annually at Australian tertiary institutions as full-time postgraduates for research resulting in the award of a PhD. Scholarships are being offered in 5 priority research areas within the SynBio FSP. Students are co-supervised by researchers at an Australian university and CSIRO.Top up Postgraduate Scholarships are available to postgraduate students who’ve gained (or expect to gain), first class honours or equivalent in related research areas. They must also expect to receive a Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship or an equivalent scholarship commencing in the year of the scholarship.
There are five research areas offered for postgraduate students in CSIRO Synthetic Biology Future Science Platform. CSIRO’s Future Science Platforms (FSPs) are an investment in science that underpins innovation and that has the potential to help reinvent and create new industries for Australia. FSPs can see us grow the capability of a new generation of researchers and attract the best students and experts to work with us on future science in Australia. They’re a multi-year, multi-disciplinary investment in our collective future, bringing CSIRO and our partners together to work on the big ideas.
SynBio is a rapidly expanding multi-billion dollar industry with significant potential for generating societal benefits and commercial opportunities; it’ll drive innovation in a large number of diverse industries going into the future. Pre-Requisites/Eligibility:
To be eligible to apply You Have to possess (or expect to gain):
- First class honours or equivalent in a related research area;
admission into an Australian University as a PhD student; - a Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship or university equivalent;
- a university supervisor Who’s willing to supervise you; and
- a CSIRO supervisor Who’s willing to supervise you
In case you have already started your PhD studies, you have to be less than 12 months into your PhD on 1 January 2019.
International applicants should have the appropriate immigration approvals to permit them to take the scholarship.
Applications will be assessed:
- Academic calibre of their student
- Quality and relevance of this student project
- Availability of appropriate supervision and quality of collaboration
