Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Fellowships
The Research Fellowships aim to recognize and reward Indian scientists in India and abroad who have excelled in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Every year, the Foundation invites nominations for three fellowships – two in Medical Sciences (one each in Basic and Clinical Research) and one in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
These nominations are evaluated by a panel of judges comprising eminent scientists. Each fellowship carries a trophy, citation, and a cash prize of INR 5,00,000. The fellowships are presented by a distinguished scientist.
Scope of the Research Fellowships
I. Medical Sciences
a. Basic Research
Basic Research would cover:
- Fundamental advances in any discipline of physical or biomedical sciences that enhance the understanding and scope of Medical Sciences.
b. Clinical Research
Clinical Research would cover:
- Contributions for better understanding of the functioning of the human body system or aetiopathogenesis, pathophysiology, or molecular basis of disease processes, thereby enhancing the understanding of medical sciences and leading to improvement in healthcare.
- Epidemiological studies on:
- Prevalence of diseases
- Impact of interventions on disease patterns in the community
- Application of advances in Laboratory Methodology to enhance patient care.
- Advances in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
- Advances in knowledge by clinical evaluation of new and existing drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic tests.
- Epidemiological studies on the secondary prevention of diseases by therapeutic interventions.
The number of Research Fellowships in each category could vary.
II. Pharmaceutical Sciences
Key Responsibilities / Research Areas
- New Drug Discovery and Development
- Design and development of new drugs
- Identification of new drug targets
- Drug-receptor interaction and characterization of receptors
- Novel drug delivery systems
- Study of the mode of action of drugs
- Process Development and Applied Research
- Outstanding achievements in molecular biology, biotechnology, and fermentation
- Development of new process technology for commercial production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates, or excipients
- Development of pharmaceutical dosage forms with improved stability and/or bioavailability
- Development of standardized dosage forms through the exploitation of rich natural resources, including herbal sources and traditional systems drugs

Qualifications
- Indian scientists in India and abroad working in Medical Sciences or Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Researchers with outstanding contributions in one or more eligible research categories
Experience
- Proven excellence in Basic Research, Clinical Research, Pharmaceutical Sciences, biotechnology, drug discovery, or applied research
- Significant scientific achievements and contributions in relevant research domains
