Key Responsibilities
- Lead field-level validation for new Point-of-Care (PoC) tests for infectious agents before large-scale rollout.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for National programmes and regulatory authorities.
- Represent WJCF in technical working groups and with donors.
- Remain updated on evolving diagnostic standards and lead the adoption of new technologies.
- Facilitate training for laboratory personnel and frontline health workers on diagnostic protocols and biosafety.
- Lead initiatives to help laboratories achieve accreditation.
- Enrol laboratory facilities in national EQA programs to ensure accurate infectious disease testing.
- Research and address barriers to diagnostic availability and affordability.
- Collaborate with the Health Ministry to update national essential diagnostic lists.
- Undertake other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Public Health, or Infectious Diseases.
- Extensive expertise in laboratory systems strengthening and infectious disease diagnostics.
Experience Required
- 20 years of relevant national-level experience in laboratory systems strengthening or infectious disease diagnostics.
- Experience working in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
- Familiarity with donor regulations.
Skills Needed
- Expertise in molecular diagnostics.
- Strong knowledge of mycobacteriology techniques.
- Experience with RT-PCR workflows.
- Hands-on experience in Point-of-Care (POC) testing.
- Knowledge of quality management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to mentor laboratory staff and train healthcare professionals.
