Project Overview
The position is part of a research project titled: “Learning Initiative for Vitamin A and D Fortification Programming.”
The project focuses on improving public health outcomes through research on micronutrient fortification, involving field-based data and biological sample collection across multiple locations.
Role Overview
The Research Scientist will play a critical role in managing and implementing project activities across laboratory and field settings. The individual will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PIs, and Central Project Coordinator to ensure smooth project execution, compliance with protocols, and high-quality data generation.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Implementation
- Plan, organize, and oversee daily project activities, including data and human sample collection across multiple field sites
- Supervise laboratory operations to ensure efficiency and compliance
- Develop, review, and maintain laboratory SOPs and documentation
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC standards and biosafety guidelines
- Monitor equipment maintenance, calibration, and servicing
Coordination & Technical Support
- Train field teams in blood sample collection and processing
- Coordinate sample logistics, including receipt from transport agencies
- Establish and support field laboratory stations
- Ensure proper cold chain maintenance during sample transport
- Manage and maintain bio-repository systems
Knowledge Management
- Assist in preparing project reports and academic publications
- Support dissemination of findings through workshops, publications, and policy briefs
Nature of Duties
The Research Scientist will oversee both laboratory and field operations, ensuring proper sample collection, processing, transportation, and biomarker analysis. The role includes regular field visits for supervision, quality control, and data collection. The candidate will also engage with institutional stakeholders, government representatives, funding agencies, and local communities, while supporting procurement and team coordination activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Ph.D. in Life Sciences
- 2–3 years of relevant research experience
Desirable Experience
- At least 2–3 first-author publications in SCI/SCIE indexed journals
- Experience in multicentric biomedical, clinical, or public health studies
- Hands-on experience in bio-repository management (sample collection, processing, storage, retrieval)
- Expertise in molecular biology techniques (RT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry)
- Experience in translational or biomedical research projects
- Knowledge of cell culture, omics-based approaches, and data analysis tools (e.g., MetaboAnalyst)
- Experience in laboratory protocol standardization and optimization
- Strong understanding of cold chain maintenance and sample integrity
