ICGEB offers competitive Postdoctoral Fellowships in Life Sciences to highly motivated scientists wishing to pursue postdoctoral research in a world-class scientific environment. The Fellowships include a competitive package comprising a stipend, health insurance, and additional benefits. The most successful fellows will also be eligible, upon completion, to apply for ICGEB Early Career Research Grants to support their research programs as young PIs upon returning to an ICGEB Member State.

Applicants should contact the ICGEB Group Leader/PI of their choice with a motivation letter to determine the availability of laboratory space and define the research project proposal, which will form an integral part of the application.

A written statement from the ICGEB Group Leader supporting the project is mandatory to apply.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB Member State and may not apply for fellowships in their country of origin unless they have been working abroad for at least three years at the time of application.
• Candidates should hold a recent PhD in Life Sciences or have at least three years of research experience.
• Preference is given to candidates below the age of 35.

Financial Support

• Duration: 2 years, with a possibility of a 1-year extension.
• Monthly Stipend:
  • Trieste (Italy): €2,300
  • New Delhi (India): $1,749
  • Cape Town (South Africa): ZAR 25,000
• Travel Expenses: Coverage from the participant’s home country to the ICGEB lab at the beginning of the fellowship and a return travel provision upon completion.
• Health Insurance: Medical coverage is provided for the duration of the fellowship.
• Research Costs: Supported by the research group’s budget.
• Visa Costs: Reimbursement for visa/permit applications and renewals.
• Meetings & Conferences: Support for participation is generally provided by the Group Leader/PI.

ICGEB does not provide financial or administrative support for family members of fellowship participants.

Submission
Applicants must complete the online application. Only one application per call is accepted per candidate.

• CV (Full academic resume)
• Academic Records (PhD degree certificate with an official English translation)
• Written Statement from the ICGEB Group Leader
• Identification Document (Passport or identity card, valid for at least 12 months)
• English Certificate (TOEFL, Cambridge, or similar, unless education was in English)

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by the ICGEB Liaison Officer of the applicant’s home country for endorsement. Endorsement is mandatory for the Fellowship to be awarded.

The ICGEB Fellowships Selection Committee will evaluate applications based on:

• Scientific excellence of the research project
• Candidate’s CV and achievements
• Potential benefit for the home country

Candidates will be notified of the outcome via email. The selection process may take several weeks, depending on the number of applications received.

Accommodation

• Trieste, Italy: No official housing services, but a list of housing options will be provided.
• New Delhi, India: Guest House accommodation is available on a twin-share basis at a nominal rate.
• Cape Town, South Africa: Accommodation support will be arranged before arrival.
