Advertisement for Recruitment of 5 Junior Research Fellow and 1 Research Associate under NMHS funded Project
Applications are invited for the post of 5 (five) Junior Research Fellows and 1 (One) Research Associate (details are given in Annexure-1) purely on a temporary basis (Indian national only) for the period of 3 years, subject to availability of fund under the project. The positions being offered are strictly temporary and co-terminus with the project.
PROJECT NAME: Creation of an Integrated Database of the Himalayan Biodiversity for Mainstreaming in Policy to meet National Commitments
LAST DATE OF APPLICATION: The last date of the submission of the application is 31st May 2024.
HOW TO APPLY: Candidates are requested to submit completed applications as per prescribed format [Annexure-2] accompanied
by self attested copies of educational certificates, research experience documentation, proof of date of birth, and copies of all examination mark sheets. If currently employed, applicants should also provide a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their current employer. Hard copy of applications should be sent via Speed Post/Registered Post to Technical Section In-charge, CGO Complex, 3rd MSO Building, Block F (5th and 6th Floor), DF Block, Sector I, Salt Lake City, Kolkata – 700064 or email to [email protected] on or before the last date. The envelope containing application form should inscribe ‘Application for the post of RAI/JRF under the NMHS funded project’.PLACE OF WORK: The selected candidates are expected to work in regional centre of BSI or Kolkata. He/She will be required to undertake extensive travel to various regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, North Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as other locations as per the project needs. Travel assignments may also involve extensive field trips to remote localities of the IHR.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES: The selected candidates are expected to do field survey in all the 5 Himalayan states extensively and work on curation of biodiversity information from various literatures, herbarium specimens. Candidates with sound knowledge in the plant taxonomy, herbarium preparation and field work, knowledge on biodiversity indices, ecological studies will be preferred. Therefore, candidates having all above criteria and willing to travel to different parts of Himalayan are encouraged to apply.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
- Candidates are requested to ensure their eligibility with respect to age, discipline, qualification etc. and then fill the application form as per Annexure-1.
- The interview for candidate selection will be conducted in OFFLINE MODE ONLY at the office of the Director, Botanical Survey of India, Central National Herbarium, Howrah – 711103. The date and time of Interview will be communicated separately to the shortlisted candidates.
- Candidates have to fill the application as Annexure – 2 and to submit to the Project Investigator (PI), NMHS Project, Botanical Survey of India.
- Application for all positions will be screened, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview. Selection will be done based on the performance in the interview and merit. Mere, possession of the prescribed qualifications does not guarantee an interview call or selection of the candidate. Any attempt to conceal, misrepresent, or canvas facts will result in disqualification.
- Selected candidates will be posted anywhere of IHR as per project requirements and will need to join immediately.

- Shortlisted candidates must bring filled application forms and self-attested copies of documents at the time of interview for the verification.
- No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
- Incomplete or misrepresented applications will not be considered and will be rejected.
- The candidate will not have the right of claiming a permanent position in BSI after completion of the project. The positions being offered are strictly temporary and coterminus with the project.
- Candidates currently employed must provide a ‘No Objection Certificate’ at the time of interview from their present employer.
- No correspondence will be entertained either in regard to the call for interview and/or selection. Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification. BSI reserve the right not to fill any position, if it so decides.
- The candidates are required to reach the interview venue at least one hour before the scheduled time of the interview. Late comers will not be entertained.
- Selected candidates may avail leaves as applicable to Research scholars/ Associate working in BSI.
- The Director, Botanical Survey of India reserves the right to decrease the number of posts in different categories and cancellation of the advertisement without assigning any reason.

Annexure 1 DETAILS OF THE POSITION ADVERTISED UNDER NMHS PROJECT
Post I
Name of the Post: Research Associate-I (RA-I)
No. of Posts: 1
Monthly Emoluments: Rs 47,000/- + HRA as per NMHS norms
Essential Qualifications: PhD in Botany or Equivalent degree from a recognized University.
Or
Candidates who have submitted PhD thesis in above subjects are also eligible to apply
and will be considered as Senior Research Fellow until the PhD is awarded.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Demonstrated fieldwork experience in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) focusing on Angiosperms other plant groups.
- Proficiency in statistical, ecological analysis.
- Minimum 3 year of research experience in conducting field Surveys.
- Experience in data collection through basic field techniques and vegetation sampling.
- Proficiency in scientific writing.
Max Age in years: 35
Work Description: The RA-I is required to participate in project activities as per their specialization. The RAs will be responsible for overall execution of field and office-based research activities which includes data collection, capacity building programs, data analysis, report writing and extensive field survey in high altitude of Himalayas. Coordination with project PIs and other research personal in project.

Name of the Post: Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
Position Nos: 5
Monthly Emoluments*: Rs. 31,000/- + HRA as per NMHS norms for candidates qualified CSIR/UGC NET, GATE, or any other national level examination Or Candidates not falling into the above category will be paid Rs. 20,000/- + HRA per month as per the NMHS norms.
Essential Qualifications: Master’s degree with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in
Botany or Equivalent degree from a UGC recognized University.
Desirable Qualification:
- Minimum 1 year of research experience in conducting field Surveys and should well versed with MS office
- Experience in data collection through basic field techniques and vegetation sampling.
- Experience in using statistical software data analysis as well as in experience in GIS, IUCN analysis.
- Proficiency in scientific writing.
Maximum Age (Years)#: 28
Work Description: The candidates will be required to extract data from herbaria, data entry, field surveys in the IHR to collect data on Angiosperms/plant groups of the Indian Himalayan Regions. Candidates expected to do data entry, data analysis, article & and report writing, and undertake any other tasks assigned by the PI under the project.
