Job Overview
As an Expert in Quality Control within the Life Science division at Merck, the selected candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of analytical processes that support product quality and compliance. This position involves executing timely sampling and analysis in line with defined turnaround times, maintaining first-time-right standards, and contributing to data trending and continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires operating and maintaining analytical equipment, preparing standards and stock solutions, and documenting all results and observations in accordance with department guidelines. Active participation in shift monitoring, communicating technical findings to supervisors and colleagues, and contributing to Root Cause Analysis teams to investigate quality deviations will be essential. A commitment to quality management systems and a drive to implement process improvements will be central to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute timely sampling and analysis in accordance with defined turnaround times.
- Maintain first-time-right standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Operate and maintain analytical equipment, preparing standards and stock solutions.
- Document all results and observations in compliance with department guidelines.
- Participate in shift monitoring and communicate technical findings effectively.
- Contribute to Root Cause Analysis teams for investigating quality deviations.
- Implement process improvements to enhance quality management systems.
Eligibility Criteria
- A degree in Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent practical experience in a Quality Control laboratory environment.
- Hands-on experience in analytical techniques, sample analysis, and laboratory operations within a regulated manufacturing or Life Science setting.
- Solid understanding of Quality Management Systems and experience in following and writing standard operating procedures.
- Experience in participating in Root Cause Analysis, investigations, or Kaizen initiatives.
- Detail-oriented with a disciplined approach to maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Effective communication of technical results to supervisors, peers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a shift-based environment and manage multiple analytical priorities.
- Proven experience in designing, optimizing, and validating robust analytical methods.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on expertise with advanced instrumentation including HPLC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and GC.
- Skilled in fundamental methods such as titrations, UV spectroscopy, and IR spectroscopy.
- Ability to ensure comprehensive characterization capabilities.
