Project Overview

The One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Project aims to understand and address the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance across human, animal, agricultural, and environmental sectors. Adopting a comprehensive One Health approach, the project generates evidence through surveillance activities, field studies, and laboratory analyses.

The project focuses on identifying key drivers of AMR within agri-food systems, including antibiotic usage patterns and environmental transmission pathways. It also evaluates stakeholder knowledge, attitudes, and practices to support behavior change interventions. The findings are expected to contribute to policy recommendations, strengthen multisectoral coordination, and support national and ICMR-led efforts to combat AMR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the collection, receipt, tracking, storage, and processing of samples from agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, and environmental sources.
  • Ensuring accurate sample labeling, documentation, transportation, and adherence to chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Supporting microbiological testing activities, including bacterial culture, isolation, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AMR).
  • Assisting with molecular and laboratory-based analyses related to AMR surveillance.
  • Maintaining laboratory records, testing logs, inventories, and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.
  • Implementing biosafety, biosecurity, and quality assurance protocols across laboratory operations.
  • Managing laboratory databases and ensuring accurate data entry, compilation, and reporting.
  • Monitoring laboratory consumables and equipment, supporting procurement planning, inventory management, and maintenance activities.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports, technical documents, presentations, and research outputs.
  • Participating in project meetings, training programs, and supporting overall laboratory workflows and project deliverables.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • A Master’s Degree in:
    • Microbiology
    • Biotechnology
    • Life Sciences
    • Environmental Sciences
    • Or any related discipline
  • OR
  • A Master’s Degree with specialization in:
    • Microbiological Laboratory Work
    • Molecular Biology
    • Environmental Sciences
    • Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)-related laboratory research

Preferred Experience and Skills

Candidates with the following experience will be preferred:

  • Experience in AMR surveillance programs or microbiology laboratories.
  • Expertise in bacterial isolation, identification, culture techniques, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Experience handling environmental, livestock, aquaculture, or agricultural samples.
  • Knowledge of CLSI and/or EUCAST guidelines.
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including PCR and DNA extraction.
  • Familiarity with laboratory biosafety, biosecurity, and quality assurance practices.
  • Experience in laboratory data management, documentation, and reporting.
