Project Title

“Diabetes-induced Twist1 function in regulation of adult epicardial cell transformation and fibrosis induction with possible therapeutic intervention in vivo”

Overview

The Junior Research Fellow (JRF) will work under the supervision of Dr. Santanu Chakraborty in the Heart Development & Disease Laboratory, Department of Life Sciences, Presidency University. The project focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying diabetes-induced cardiac fibrosis and identifying possible therapeutic interventions using in vivo models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting experimental research related to cardiac fibrosis and epicardial cell transformation.
  • Perform laboratory techniques including molecular and cell biology experiments.
  • Support animal handling and maintenance activities where required.
  • Analyze and document experimental findings for project reporting and publications.
  • Contribute to data compilation, interpretation, and presentation of research outcomes.
  • Maintain laboratory records and comply with institutional research protocols.

Essential Qualifications

  • MSc / MS / BS-MS or equivalent degree in any branch of Biology from a recognized institution.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are desirable but not mandatory:

  • Experience in:
    • Small animal (rodent) handling and maintenance
    • Animal cell culture
    • RNA/protein isolation
    • Western blotting
    • Real-time PCR
    • Immunohistochemistry
    • Routine molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and analysis methods.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, including scientific presentations.
  • Qualification in:
    • NET (JRF/LS)
    • GATE
    • or equivalent national-level examination.

Fellowship & Duration

  • Fellowship: ₹25,000 per month (consolidated), as per DSTBT norms.
  • Project Duration: 3 years (up to 2029).
  • Initial Tenure: 1 year, extendable annually based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

PhD Opportunity

Selected candidates may be permitted to enroll in the PhD program at Presidency University as per university rules and regulations.
