Role Overview
The Research Scientist – Molecular Characterization reports to the Team Lead and contributes to research activities involving biochemical and molecular biological analysis of microbes and biomolecules. The role requires expertise across multiple advanced domains and the ability to independently manage projects while supporting team development and ensuring timely delivery of research outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
- Support the organization’s philosophy, values, and strategy
- Contribute to Biologicals R&D objectives by driving innovation
- Create proprietary biomolecule libraries
- Support team development, target setting, and capability building
- Participate in internal and external scientific forums to enhance expertise
Operational Responsibilities
- Perform molecular biology studies including genomic DNA isolation, RNA isolation, cloning, real-time PCR, and gene expression profiling
- Conduct biochemical analyses such as ELISA and primary metabolite profiling using HPLC and GC-MS
- Apply knowledge of LC-MS and GC-MS for hormonal and volatile compound analysis
- Utilize bioinformatics tools such as BWA, SAMtools, GATK, LoFreq, SNVer, VipR, CRISP, and CAMBA pipeline for sequencing data analysis
- Perform GC-MS data analysis using MetaboAnalyst and Metalign
- Use BLAST for sequence alignment, PARSESNP and SIFT for mutation analysis
- Construct phylogenetic trees and heat maps
- Browse genes from genome databases and manage large datasets with statistical analysis
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments related to biomolecule research
- Support microorganism identification using molecular biology techniques
- Develop protocols for cultivating microorganisms to enhance biomolecule production
- Establish and implement SOPs to ensure standardization and quality
- Document results, present findings, and participate in departmental meetings
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and information security standards
- Coordinate with project managers to meet timelines and objectives
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in research processes
- Provide scientific input for product development and identify innovation opportunities
