The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of
Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of wildlife research, teaching and training.

The Institute plans to engage one (01) Junior Research Fellow (Indian national only) and one (01) Field Worker/ Scientific Administrative Assistant on a purely contractual basis for the project “Conservation ecology of endangered Reticulated Python Malayopython reticulatus (Schneider 1801) in the Nicobar Archipelago, India” and invites application over an email followed by an online interview.

The period of the contractual engagement will be initially for a period of 01 (one) year
with a possibility of further extension up to 3 years based on performance.

The last date of receipt of online applications is 10.06.2022 up to 1730 hrs. The EQ, DQ, age limits, monthly emoluments and other details of the positions are given below –

Mode of Selection and other conditions

  1. The selection of the candidates will be in accordance with the performance in the interview and in order of merit as decided by the Interview Committee. All original documents should be produced at the time of the interview. The decision of the Institute’s Committee in all matters relating to eligibility, work experience, acceptance or rejection of the application will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained from any individual.
  2. The candidates are required to submit their completed application forms in PDF format, with accompanying attachments A SINGLE PDF FILE, by email (with the subject line: “Application for the post of in “CONSERVATION ECOLOGY OF ENDANGERED RETICULATED PYTHON MALAYOPYTHON RETICULATUS (SCHNEIDER 1801) IN THE NICOBAR ARCHIPELAGO, INDIA” to <[email protected]> not later than 1730 hrs on 10.06.2022.
  3. The application form needs to be typed according to the prescribed format and must be accompanied by (a) Scanned copies of educational qualifications, (b) Scanned copies of experience letter/ certificates and (c) A concise statement of purpose (SOP) with approximately 300-500 words (in single spacing and 12-point font). The (SOP) should be compulsorily attached with the application stating the purpose clearly for applying to this position. Incomplete applications will be rejected. There is no specified format for the SOP.
  4. Send separate applications while applying for multiple posts.
  5. The applications received after the deadline will be rejected.
  6. The essential, desirable qualifications and SOP will be used for shortlisting the candidates for online interviews.
  7. At the time of verification of original documents, if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, his/her candidature will not be considered.
  8. The positions advertised are purely temporary/ contractual for the project period only and will stand abolished after completion of the project.
  9. The tenure in the project will be governed by the Institute’s rules and regulations.

For Post I

Emoluments

  • Rs. 31,000/- + 16% HRA per month for 1st and 2nd year and (Rs. 35000/-+HRA) per month for 3rd year. to scholars who are selected through (a) National Eligibility
    Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or (b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government
    Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.

Essential Qualification (EQ)

  • Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Zoology/ Ecology/Forestry/Life Sciences/ Biotechnology/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification (DQ)

  • Candidates with a keen interest in field-oriented wildlife/snake research, good analytical,
    molecular genetic aspects and communication skills.
  • Working experience in GIS

Work description

  • The work involves carrying out field research and survey of Reticulated pythons in a remote areas of Nicobar Islands, molecular genetics, data compilation, analysis and report writing.
  • In addition, baseline data (Primary/secondary) collection for the project which includes
    field/questionnaire surveys for people’s perceptions towards snakes, anthropogenic impacts on wildlife and their habitats in the study area.
  • Only candidate who is willing to work in arduous field conditions in remote locations of the Nicobar Islands with limited logistic support needs to apply

Emoluments

  • Rs. 18,000/- + 16% HRA per month

Essential Qualification (EQ)

  • Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognized University

Desirable Qualification (DQ)

  • Graduation / Masters’ Degree in Life Sciences from a recognized University.
  • Candidates with a keen interest in field-oriented wildlife/snake research, good analytical,
    molecular genetic aspects and communication skills.
  • Working experience in GIS

Work description

  • Assisting the project team in day to day activities and functioning of the project in the field and at WII.
  • Only candidates who are willing to work in arduous field conditions in remote locations of the Nicobar Islands with limited logistic support needs to apply.
