Call for Letter of Intent in the area of “Genome
Engineering Technologies and Their Applications”

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. Of India invites Letter of Intent in the area of “Genome Engineering Technologies and Their Applications” in the following Categories:

A. Development of New Methods, Tools, Processes for Genome Editing.
B. Establish Accessible Platforms Facilities on Emerging Genome Editing Technologies for Research & Development and Applied Use.
C. Improvement of Existing Genome Editing Technology Platforms.
D. Development of New Applications of Existing Genome Editing Technologies – such as CRISPR/Cas, TALEN & other emerging approaches, to modify gene expression and its validation that can significantly advance research and development in Human Health, Agriculture & Plant Productivity, Animal Health, Bioenergy & Environmental Research etc..

Preference will be given to multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional network projects and efforts aiming to develop novel technology or applying known technologies to specific unmet needs.

Format for Letter of Intent:

  1. Project title
  2. The category where the Letter of Intent is being submitted
  3. Details of institutions & investigators involved in the project.
  4. Aims and Objectives of the Proposal – Clearly defining the unmet need being addressed. 
  5. Specific technological/ biological questions in the context of this unmet need & its rationale.
  6. The current state of this proposed technology and study in the Indian and International context.
  7. The novelty of this proposal,
  8. Anticipated outcome & its potential application in the Indian context.
  9. Scope of development of resources to be made accessible for the larger biological science community.
  10. Brief CV of the investigators (with details of 5-6 most applicable publications, patents etc.)
  11. Tentative total institution wise budget (please also cite budget break up for Recurring & Non-Recurring)

How to Apply:

Interested applicants are asked to submit Two (2) hard copies of the Letter of Intent in the aforementioned format to Dr Onkar N. Tiwari, Scientist’E’, Department of Biotechnology, R. No. 506, 5th Floor, Block-3, CGO Complex, Lodi Road, New Delhi 110003, and also by email (in MSWORD and PDF format) at [email protected] & [email protected] PIs of this shortlisted Letter of Intent will be invited to submit full proposal via DBT epromis.
