No Score Normalization in NET & CUET-UG From This Year!
UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar announced a change in the way scores are adjusted for the Common University Entrance Test-UG (CUET-UG) and the National Eligibility Test (NET). According to PTI, he stated that there won’t be any normalization of scores this year because both exams will happen in a single session for each subject.
Normalization, a process to make scores comparable across different test sessions, is being eliminated. This decision comes after students voiced concerns that normalization unfairly affected their exam performance.
Previously, tests were conducted over multiple days to accommodate students’ preferences for exam centres. However, this year, using the OMR mode, exams can be held nationwide on the same day, reducing the need for normalization.
Major Update: CUET-UG will run from May 15 to 24, with 15 subjects in pen-and-paper mode and 48 subjects online. Similarly, the UGC-NET, which previously was computer-based, will be pen-and-paper on June 16.
Now, we don’t know if it will be the same for CSIR UGC NET. An official update is awaited. Also, the reason for the delay in the CSIR UGC NET June 2024 notification is that they are making all these
significant changes.Comment Your Views Below.
UGC Chairman Kumar also mentioned the decision to allow undergraduate students into PhD programs. This is aligned with NEP2020’s goal of strengthening research in universities. Permitting undergrads into PhD programs will provide them early research opportunities. Thus, UGC will allow undergrads to take the UGC NET, qualify for JRF, and join PhD programs.
