Background:

Lundbeck Foundation’s vision is to make better lives through new understanding. We want our grants to produce a considerable contribution to raising research-based knowledge and expertise within the area of biomedical and health sciences in Denmark. At precisely the exact same time, our grants need to help ensure that Denmark consistently has the very best graduates and scientists at all career levels in such areas. Lundbeck Foundation considers that diversity strengthens science and because of this diversity, for example, but not restricted to, gender and ethnic origin, is encouraged. It’s thus important that we to get applications from as many competent scientists as possible, from all backgrounds. The objective of this Lundbeck Foundation Fellows programme will be to encourage highly promising young researchers in their attempts to set up an independent profile and research team. With these grants, we plan to encourage

a number of tomorrow’s most significant contributors to research breakthroughs, significantly impacting society and research.

Research theme:

The proposed research must be included in the fields of biomedical, clinical or health science, or has to facilitate research in these fields.

Who can apply?

Lundbeck Foundation fellowships are awarded to outstanding and promising young researchers that are expanding or establishing their own research teams at non-commercial Danish research institutions. This applies to Danish-based researchers, to researchers from abroad who would like to move to Denmark and keep their study here and also to researchers already used in Danish universities and university hospitals.

Applicants need to:

  • Have obtained their PhD no more than eight years ago (principles for leave of absence apply1 ).
  • Work within the fields of health or biomedicine, or related fields with a definite biomedical angle to the project.

Applicants may not:

  • Already hold major Danish or global starting grants similar to a Lundbeck Foundation Fellowship
  • Already hold a position as a professor or associate professor in clinical or theoretical research environments

Which proposals are eligible?

Your project proposes frontline clinical, translational or basic research within the fields of biomedical, clinical or health science, or eases research in these areas

How much?

Lundbeck Foundation is allocating around DKK 100 million into the call for suggestions. Grants have been DKK 10 million annually and pay five decades. The funding may include all employees and non-staff costs about the job, including your salary. 10 percent of this budget could be booked for indirect costs if suitably justified.

How to apply?

You must submit your application, written in English, through Lundbeck Foundation’s application system no later than 13th December 2018 at 1.00 pm CET (GMT+1). Please be aware that the Foundation won’t consider or assess any application material that isn’t submitted through the application system.

Your application needs to include the following:

  • Research plan
  • Publication listing and CV
  • Budget
  • A letter of support from the Danish host institution
  • A Letter of Intent from a resident researcher at the host institution that will mentor you through the process of establishing a research group as an integral part of the research environment there

What are the grant conditions?

If your proposal is successful, a contract will be drafted. As part of this process, you and your host Institution will be asked to accept Lundbeck Foundation’s General Terms and Conditions for  Research Grants and individual, project-specific amendments, such as requests for indirect Costs, which is subject to negotiation.

Important dates (weeks):

  • Deadline for application: 13th December 2018
  • Interviews of selected applicants: week 21, 2019
  • Board’s approval of grants: week 25, 2019
