Key Responsibilities
- Identify appropriate ICD – 10 – CM and ICD – 10 – PCS Codes for inpatient services and understand their impact on the DRG.
- Abstract additional data elements during coding as needed.
- Adhere to ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and/or AHIMA.
- Be able to code 1.5-2.5 charts per hour while meeting the quality criteria.
- Track and implement AHA guidelines updates.
- Provide documentation feedback and query physicians as appropriate.
- Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge and participate in department meetings and educational events.
- Review and maintain records of charts coded, held, and/or missing.
- Demonstrate knowledge of security and confidentiality of systems in compliance with HIPAA policies.
- Comply with company policies and adopt directives as needed.
Required Qualifications
Life Science with certification from AAPC or AHIMA (CIC certification preferred).
Skills and Requirements
- Passed pre-bill and 1 Triannual audit.
- 1+ years of experience in multispecialty IP DRG coding and Acute Care Inpatient medical coding in Optum.
- Fully proficient in DRG coding with a quality-first mindset.
- Experience in coding for NLH, Marin, or DH.
