Position Overview

ICAR–Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode, invites applications for the position of Young Professional-II (YP-II) under the Centre for Agricultural Bioinformatics (CABin) project. The position is purely contractual and is intended to support research and development activities in biotechnology and bioinformatics.

The selected candidate will contribute to bioinformatics research, genomic data analysis, database development, and computational biology projects within the institute.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets.
  • Support Marker-Assisted Selection (MAS) and molecular breeding initiatives.
  • Develop and manage bioinformatics databases and computational resources.
  • Utilize programming and statistical tools for biological data analysis.
  • Work with Linux-based computing environments and bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Assist in research documentation, data interpretation, and project reporting.
  • Collaborate with researchers and project teams to achieve project objectives.

Educational Qualification

Essential Qualification

  • Postgraduate degree in Biotechnology.
  • Minimum two years of relevant professional or research experience.

Desirable Qualification

  • Two years of experience in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
  • Expertise in:
    • Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis
    • Marker-Assisted Selection (MAS)
    • Bioinformatics workflows and computational biology
    • Database development and management
  • Strong programming skills with proficiency in:
    • Linux
    • Python
    • R

Experience Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in biotechnology and bioinformatics research.
  • Hands-on exposure to genomic data analysis and bioinformatics tools.
  • Experience working with large biological datasets and computational platforms will be preferred.

Age Criteria

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 45 years
  • Age will be calculated as on the date of the written test/interview.
  • Relaxation in the upper age limit will be provided to SC/ST/OBC, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and Ex-Servicemen candidates as per Government of India rules.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Consolidated monthly remuneration of ₹42,000.
  • TA/DA will be admissible for official domestic travel undertaken as part of project-related work.

Tenure

  • Initial appointment will be for one year.
  • The engagement may be extended annually, up to a maximum of three years, subject to project requirements and satisfactory performance.

Selection Process

  • Selection will be based on a Walk-In-Test Cum Interview.

    • Reporting Time: 09:30 AM
    • Interview/Test Time: 10:00 AM
  • Candidates arriving after the reporting time will not be permitted to participate in the selection process.
