International Travel Scheme (ITS) – ANRF Scheme 2026
The International Travel Scheme (ITS) provides financial assistance to Indian researchers for presenting research papers at international scientific events held abroad. Under the ANRF Scheme, support is also provided to young scientists (below 35 years) for attending training programs, short-term schools, and workshops, helping advance Research Careers globally.
Key Benefits
- Financial assistance for presenting research papers at international conferences, seminars, workshops, and scientific events abroad.
- Support for young scientists (below 35 years) attending training programs, workshops, and short-term schools.
- The maximum duration for training programs, schools, and workshops is 21 days.
- Economy class airfare (shortest route).
- Airport taxes.
- Visa fees.
- Registration fee (actual or up to ₹50,000) for eligible young scientists below 35 years.
- Applications must be submitted 60–90 days before the event.
- Applicants cannot submit another application within 90 days of the previous submission.
Scope
The International Travel Scheme under the ANRF Scheme provides financial support for:
- Presenting an original research paper.
- Chairing a scientific session.
- Delivering a keynote address at an international scientific event.
- Young researchers (below 35 years) attending:
- Workshops
- Short-term training programs
- Summer/Winter schools
- Scientific training programs are organized outside India.
Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:
- An active Indian researcher engaged in R&D work in recognized academic institutions or research laboratories in India.
- Invitation to present an original scientific paper.
- Invitation required for young scientists attending workshops, schools, or training programs.
- Must not have availed financial assistance under this scheme during the previous three years.
- The event must be an international scientific event.
- Personal invitations such as postdoctoral work, internships, observer-ships, or informal training programs are not eligible.
- Must possess a Master’s degree in Science or a Bachelor’s degree in professional courses from a recognized university at the time of application.
Nature of Support
The ANRF Scheme provides reimbursement for:
- Economy class airfare (shortest route)
- Airport tax
- Visa fees
- Registration fee (actual or up to ₹50,000) for young scientists below 35 years
Note: Taxi fare will not be reimbursed.

- Endorsement letter signed and stamped by the competent authority.
- Acceptance letter for oral/poster presentation.
- Copy of the research abstract.
- Complete biodata.
- Scientific publications list.
- Patent details (if applicable).

Claim Reimbursement Stage
Applicants must submit:
- Claim Form
- Bank Account Details
- Air/Rail/Bus Tickets
- Air Ticket Cash Receipt
- Original Boarding Passes
- Visa Fee Receipt
- Registration Fee Receipt
- Participation Certificate
- Certificate of Financial Support from Other Sources (if applicable)
- Best Available Fare Certificate
- Miscellaneous documents (if required)
Terms & Conditions
- Travel grant must be used only for the approved scientific event.
- Claim bills and documents must be submitted within 90 days after completion of the event.
- Funds must be used only for the sanctioned purpose.
- If the applicant leaves the institution, ANRF must be informed immediately, and unutilized funds must be refunded.
- Research requiring legal protection should not be presented before securing intellectual property rights.
- Providing incorrect or misleading information will result in cancellation of candidature and a three-year debarment from the scheme.
How to Apply
- Register on the ANRF online portal.
- Log in to your account.
- Navigate to:
- Menu → Proposal Submission → Form Submission
- Select International Travel Scheme (ITS).
- Complete the online application.
- Submit the application 60–90 days before the event.
Applications submitted through any other mode will not be considered.
Important Update
Today (26 June 2026), applications are being accepted only for events whose start dates fall between 25 August 2026 and 24 September 2026 (both dates inclusive).
