About the Role
The Associate Scientific Editor – Life or Food Science role is designed for PhD holders who want to use their academic background and authoring experience to support researchers in scholarly publication.
The Associate Scientific Editor will work within the Author Heroes team, where scientific expertise and problem-solving skills are used to improve the author experience and help researchers identify suitable journals for publication.
About the Team
At STM Journals, the team collaborates with researchers to facilitate the publication of impactful scientific discoveries, with a strong emphasis on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility.
Supporting a portfolio of more than 2700 hybrid and Open Access scientific journals, the team contributes to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate Scientific Editor will be responsible for:
- Evaluating content as a partner to external editors
- Improving the editorial process for editors and reviewers iteratively
- Engaging closely with authors to help improve manuscripts
- Managing the editorial process for papers from submission through peer review to final decision
- Helping authors increase their chances of publication in alternative journals if rejected from their first choice
- Recruiting and managing external editors while maintaining consistent standards
Requirements
Candidates should possess:
- A PhD in Life or Food Science
- Doctoral or post-doctoral experience in relevant fields, especially with a focus on chemistry or health (cancer)
- Professional-level written and spoken English
- An experimental, results-driven, and enthusiastic work attitude
- A record of published papers in scientific journals
- Familiarity with online platforms, social media, and digital content
- Strong communication skills with excellent written and spoken English
- The ability to build relationships and work as a self-starter within a large international environment
- A broad scientific interest and a strong desire to support authors, editors, reviewers, and the wider scientific and clinical community
