About the Institute

BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) is India’s first institution dedicated exclusively to biomedical genomics research, training, translation, and capacity building. Located in Kalyani, West Bengal near Kolkata, NIBMG operates under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The institute played a major role in the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortium (INSACOG) during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to contribute to nationwide pathogen surveillance and genomics research. About the Project

The INSACOG Expansion Project focuses on nationwide surveillance of emerging viral and bacterial pathogens using advanced genomics-based methods. The project aims to monitor SARS-CoV-2, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and other priority pathogens through wastewater surveillance, metagenomics, and genomic sequencing. Led by BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) under the INSACOG network, this initiative supports early disease detection, variant tracking, and public health preparedness across India.

Qualification

  • Essential Qualifications: PhD in Life Science with experience in host/microbial genomics. Age limit: 35 yrs.
  • Desirable Qualifications: Experience in wet lab methods for bacterial and viral identification and sequencing, metagenomic and antimicrobial resistance profiling. Peer-reviewed publications in the relevant field.

Nature of Duty

Coordination of the wet lab work pertaining to the project and preparing monthly reports as well as execution of different types of lab work on bacterial and viral DNA/RNA isolation and sequencing, metagenomic and culturomics study
