Overview

The R&D Specification Management role supports global R&D Specification Management teams based in Mexico Business Services (MBS) and Hyderabad Business Services (HBS). The position focuses on delivering high-quality support by leveraging technical expertise, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, and ensuring the creation, maintenance, and management of accurate specifications for formulas, ingredients, and packaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes internal and external resources to create or update ingredient and packaging specifications, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and readiness for supplier commercial qualification approval.
  • Learns, understands, and adheres to standards related to ingredients, suppliers, third parties, formulas, and food/beverage packaging.
  • Works under guidance or mentorship (where applicable), with outputs reviewed by a Senior Specification Writing Analyst.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with in-market R&D teams, GBS specification teams, and external suppliers.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders including Product Development (PD), Food Safety (FS), Regulatory Affairs (RA), Quality Assurance (QA), Procurement, and Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) to ensure complete and accurate specifications.
  • Acts as a primary point of contact for suppliers to gather required data and ensures timely follow-ups to drive completion.
  • Collects supplier questionnaires and aligns suppliers on specification requirements.
  • Initiates material testing requests (for applicable categories such as food and beverages) and validates specification quality parameters.
  • Maintains and updates specifications to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Uploads supplier documentation and material qualifications into systems such as Product Vision and SAP, while tracking workflow progress.
  • For packaging specifications, schedules and conducts Individual Component Specification (ICS) reviews, updates documentation, and manages supplier approvals prior to internal review.
  • Ensures all deliverables meet defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Identifies, escalates, and helps resolve critical business issues to prevent supply shortages, production delays, or outages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1–2 years of experience in Regulatory, QA/QC, food analysis, or a technical role within the FMCG/food industry (entry-level candidates or interns may also be considered).
  • Ability to interpret technical information, escalate issues, and drive alignment toward practical solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate new systems and applications.
  • Basic understanding of Food Safety, Microbiology, and Regulatory Affairs (for formula and ingredient specifications).
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across global teams and time zones.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail with strong data management and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and ownership of tasks.
  • Fluency in English.
