About the Role
Do you have great research skills and are customer-centric and data-driven? Elsevier is looking for an Acquisition Editor to manage a subject portfolio of books for the global academic and professional market. You will work with a range of disciplines including Physical Science, Life and Biological Science, Engineering, or Computing. Your responsibilities will include identifying and acquiring high-quality book projects, building relationships with authors, and developing a strategic portfolio for publication. This is a great opportunity to work with leading academics and researchers to create content that advances knowledge and improves outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Acquisition: Identify and acquire 30+ new or revised book projects annually. Prepare business cases and proposals, negotiate contracts with authors, and ensure content aligns with our strategy.
- Publication Strategy: Develop and execute a 5-year portfolio strategy using data and analytics to support business objectives.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with authors, editors, and advisors. Provide excellent service to all stakeholders.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Production, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure full value for customers.
- Timely Delivery: Work closely with content management to ensure timely and high-quality publication of titles.
Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Natural Science, Mathematical, Physical, Life or Bio-Sciences, Engineering, Computing, or related subjects.
- Content Acquisition: Familiarity with content acquisition and development processes for international technical publications. Knowledge of peer and development reviews, and publishing ethics.
- Market Insight: Understanding of the global academic and professional STM market, and insight into customer needs.
- Analytical Proficiency: Strong data analysis and market research skills for strategic planning.
- International Collaboration: Ability to work independently and build strong relationships with international authors and colleagues.
- Communication Skills: Strong networking, communication, and negotiation abilities.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving organization.
