Possible Interview Questions for the post of junior research fellow at TIFR Mumbai:

  1. Can you tell us about your experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and electrophoresis? How have you applied these techniques in your previous work? Answer: Certainly. During my academic journey and previous experiences, I have gained hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques like PCR, cloning, and electrophoresis. I have utilized these techniques to amplify and analyze DNA, construct vectors, and perform genetic manipulations. For example, in my previous role, I successfully cloned a gene of interest into a plasmid vector using restriction enzymes and ligase.
  2. Have you worked with Drosophila melanogaster as a model system? If yes, could you please describe your experience and any specific experiments you have conducted? Answer: While I haven’t had direct experience with Drosophila melanogaster, I have a solid understanding of its importance as a model organism in genetics research. I am familiar with the unique characteristics of Drosophila and its use in studying various biological processes. Given the opportunity, I am confident in quickly adapting my skills and knowledge to effectively work with Drosophila in the laboratory.
  3. How do you prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a laboratory setting? Can you provide an example of a time when you had to handle several responsibilities simultaneously? Answer: Effective task management is crucial in a laboratory setting. I prioritize my tasks by assessing their urgency and importance. One instance where I successfully managed multiple responsibilities was during my undergraduate project. I was simultaneously conducting experiments, recording data, and preparing reagents for my team members. I maintained clear communication, established a timeline, and organized my workflow, ensuring all tasks were completed efficiently and on time.
  4. Communication and teamwork are essential in a collaborative laboratory environment. How have you demonstrated your communication and teamwork skills in previous projects or experiences? Answer: In my previous projects, I actively participated in group discussions, team meetings, and laboratory presentations. I effectively communicated my ideas, listened to others, and contributed constructively to group discussions. Additionally, I collaborated with colleagues to troubleshoot experimental issues and collectively brainstorm solutions. My open-mindedness and willingness to collaborate have always fostered a positive and productive team environment.
  5. As a Facility Trainee at C-CAMP Drosophila Facility, you will be responsible for fly husbandry and genetics. Can you elaborate on your experience and knowledge in these areas? Answer: I have gained experience in fly husbandry and genetics during my academic training. I understand the principles of maintaining Drosophila stocks, including proper feeding, breeding, and monitoring of their health. I have also studied the basic principles of genetics, such as inheritance patterns, genetic crosses, and the interpretation of genetic data. I am eager to expand my knowledge and apply my skills in fly husbandry and genetics within the dynamic environment of C-CAMP Drosophila Facility.
