CONTRACTUAL ENGAGEMENT OF RESEARCH PERSONNEL

The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun invites applications from Indian nationals for a walk-in interview to recruit research personnel for the project entitled “Influence of tectonic shift (uplift and subsidence) on the carbon stock dynamics of mangrove forests of Andaman Islands” purely on contractual basis. Details of the positions along with essential and desirable qualifications and brief description of work are given below:

Post I

Position Name: Senior Project Associate

No. of posts – 01

Upper age limit 40 years (Age relaxations as per the GoI norms)

Duration – 6 months

Essential Qualification (EQ):

  • PhD or First Class Master’s degree in Botany/Environmental Science/Wildlife Science/Marine Biology/Life sciences or allied disciplines.
  • Minimum Four-year experience in field research on coastal or inter-tidal ecology

Desirable Qualification (DQ):

  • Prior experience of working in mangrove ecosystems
  • Knowledge of Data analysis in R statistics
  • Excellent skills in scientific communication proven by publication(s) in peer-reviewed journal
  • Enthusiasm to work in remote islands of Andaman & Nicobar archipelago

Work Description

  • Work involves extensive travel and data collection in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on the response of vegetation and soil in mangrove ecosystem to a gradient of sea-level
    change induced by tectonic uplift and subsidence.
  • Candidate will co-ordinate the research team to conduct field research, data collection, data analysis and preparation of publications and reports
  • Candidate will have to be physically fit and mentally prepared to work in the inter-tidal mud flats of remote islands with limited logistics

Emoluments: Rs. 42,000 + 16% HRA

Position Name: Project Associate

No. of posts – 01

Upper age limit 35 years

Duration – 6 months

Essential Qualification (EQ): First Class Master’s degree in Botany/Environmental Science/Wildlife Science/Marine Biology/Life sciences or allied disciplines

Desirable Qualification (DQ):

  • Prior experience of working in mangrove ecosystems
  • Knowledge of collection and processing of soil samples
  • Enthusiasm to work in remote islands of Andaman & Nicobar archipelago

Work Description

  • Work involves extensive travel and data collection in the Andaman & Nicobar islands on mangrove vegetation.
  • Candidate will conduct field research, data collection, data analysis and preparation of scientific papers
  • Candidate will have to be physically fit and mentally prepared to work in the inter-tidal mud flats of remote islands with limited logistics

Emoluments: Rs. 31,000 + 16% HRA

General Terms & Conditions:

  1. A one-page write up on “statement of interest” and duly signed application in the prescribed format along with all the supporting documents (eg. certificates of educational qualification, NET/GATE certificate (if any), extracurricular activity, and community certificate (if reserved category) etc.) should be compiled into a single PDF file and e-mailed to [email protected] on or before 26 April 2023.
  2. Candidates must clearly mention in their e-mail about the preferred mode of interview (on-line or interview in person).
  3. The shortlisted candidates will be informed about the interview on 27 April 2023. The interview will take place on 28 April 2023 either on-line interview or interview in person depends on the preference given by the candidates. Candidates preferred to appear for interview in person must report at the WII, Dehradun on 28 April 2023 at 9.30 hrs with their filled-in application along with original documents/certificates for verification.
  4. At the time of verification of original documents or even after selection, if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection and due action will be taken.
  5. The Institute will not provide any accommodation and TA/DA for candidates appearing for the personal interview.

Answer: Yes, I have prepared a project report on “Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecological Services of Mangroves in the Sunderbans” for my master’s thesis. The report includes a comprehensive analysis of the mangrove ecosystem, its biodiversity, and the services it provides to the local communities and the broader ecosystem.
  5. How do you ensure safety and health in fieldwork, especially in challenging environments like remote islands? Answer: I prioritize safety and health in all aspects of fieldwork, from planning to execution. I will follow the safety guidelines and protocols of the institute, use appropriate safety equipment and gear, and maintain regular communication with my team and the institute. I will also seek medical advice and care when needed and stay physically and mentally fit to handle the challenges of fieldwork.
