NEET Seat Allotment & Counselling- Overview
NEET seat allotment & counselling is conducted for students to choose their desired college & course. It is usually held a few weeks post the declaration of the result. NEET seat allotment & counselling is organized by the concerned state officials for the 85% State quota seats & MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) for the 15% AIQ (All India Quota) seats.

1. For AIQ Seats
The NEET AIQ reserves 15% of the total BDS/MBBS courses. This is open for persons of Indian origin, foreign nationals, NRIs, OCI (Overseas Citizen of Idia), and Indian nationals. The 15% AIQ seats consist of seats in both government & private medical institutes. These are filled via the centralized all India counselling.

Candidates belonging to any state and who get a score above the 15% All India cut-off can take part in all India NEET counselling. This counselling is organized for admission in all state dental & medical colleges. Students who take part in this counselling will even participate in their own states’ state quota counselling. Generally, there are two rounds in the all India NEET counselling process with an additional mop-up round at the end based on the seat vacancy. The initial mock counselling helps students to choose an indicative seat allowing them to check & secure a seat. Registration is mandatory for taking part in mock counselling.
Once the NEET counselling notification is out, qualified students need to pay the registration fee, upload the requisite documents, and register & fill the form. If the candidate doesn’t get the desired seat during the second round of counselling, they can exit with forfeiture wherein the paid security amount will be lost. If the candidate accepts the allotted seat, the amount can’t be surrendered or declined. After the declaration of NEET seat allotment, candidates need to further download & report to the respective institute to proceed with the admission formalities. If students are not allotted any seat in both rounds of counselling, they can take part in the mop-up rounds.
Registration fee for NEET seat allotment & counselling
Students should remit the registration fee for proceeding with further counselling steps. There are two kinds of fees: a non-refundable & a refundable one, both need to be paid within the specified time. Candidates can pay the amount via online mode with either credit/debit card or internet banking.

2. For State Quota Seats
This NEET counselling is organized by every state separately for admission to 85% state quota seats in their respective state dental & medical colleges. For the rest of the government medical colleges under the state quota, seats are offered in deemed medical universities whereas, for private colleges, seats are occupied by the NEET counselling organized by the respective state officials.
For the state counselling, authorities release separate seat allotment lost, application form, counselling dates, & NEET merit list. Additionally, distinct domicile rules are followed for each state. Since J&K (Jammu & Kashmir) seats are not covered in the AIQ NEET counselling, they will be included in the state counselling. The counselling process is quite similar to that of the AIQ NEET counselling.

NEET Seat Allotment & Counselling- Steps Involved
NEET aspirants should be familiar with the latest NEET exam updates & finish the counselling process correctly. Here is a step-by-step process of NEET seat allotment & counselling.
- Registration: NEET candidates must remember to register for counselling without fail. Students can find the registration link & the corresponding details on the official website. After completing the registration, login credentials are sent to the candidates via mail or phone.
- Locking of choice & submission: According to the candidates’ interest, they can fill the choices of courses & colleges. Students have the option to save the data entered. After saving & locking, the choices will be considered as the final ones.
- Seat allotment result: After locking the choices, seat allotment results are declared by the officials. Students will be initiated about the result with a mail or an SMS. The result will provide details of the allotted courses & colleges.
- Editing & locking: If students wish to change the choice of allotted seats, they can do this during this step. Login with the credentials, edit & lock to confirm the final choice.
- Reporting to allotted colleges: For confirming the seats, candidates need to report to the allotted colleges within the specified time frame upon the completion of the NEET seat allotment. Additionally, they should pay the initial fee at the respective college. If any student fails to do so, the seat will be automatically transferred to the next candidate in line. Candidates need to bring these documents along with them while reporting to the allotted colleges for the NEET seat allotment & counselling:
