Call for Research Proposals (2018-19)

Department of Science & Technology (DST) has taken several pioneering initiatives for promoting women in Science and Technology (S&T) domain. Women Scientist Scheme (WOS) under KIRAN branch specifically addresses challenges facing women in the realm of S&T who had a break in a career by offering suitable opportunities to return to mainstream science.

Under Women Scientist Scheme-B (WOS-B), proposals are encouraged from women scientists and technologists who want to use their scientific knowledge and temperament for the advantage of society. WOS-B focuses on projects resulting in S&T based alternatives of societal challenges & issues for societal advantages. Such projects should deliver potential solutions by means of development of viable technology/technique and/or lab-to-land technology transfer, its adaptation and scaling up. The project is tenable for a maximum period of three (3) years. Basic research proposals won’t be entertained under WOS-B.

Thematic Areas in which proposals could be submitted (indicative only):

Agriculture and Allied Sciences (AAS)
Health, Food and Nutrition (HFN)
Engineering and Technology Development (ETD)

Qualification: Women having qualifications in science and technology areas and in the age group of 27-57 years with a break in their career but interested in addressing a well-defined/identified social challenge through viable S&T interventions are eligible to apply. Women working as regular/permanent employees aren’t eligible to apply in this scheme.

Emoluments: The fellowship amount under the scheme is:

• Rs 55,000/- a month (pm) for PhD or equivalent (total project cost not exceeding Rs.30 lakh),
• Rs 40,000/- pm for M.Phil. /M.Tech or equal (total project cost not exceeding Rs.25 lakh),
• Rs 30,000/- pm for M.Sc. or equivalent (total project cost not exceeding Rs.20 lakh). Total project cost includes above fellowship of Principal Investigator (PI), consumables, travel, contingencies and minor equipment but excluding overheads.

How to Apply:

DST has begun e-PMS (onlinedst.gov.in) for online submission of research proposals. Those considering submitting a proposal need to register at this portal site and upload the proposal in the given format. WOS-B Proposal Format can be obtained on e-PMS under KIRAN Division and in DST website. Send two hard copies of the submitted research proposal to Mrs. Namita Gupta, Scientist-‘F’, KIRAN Division, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Technology Bhawan, New Mehrauli Road, New Delhi-110016.  Superscribe envelop with ‘Women Scientist Scheme-B (WOS-B)’.
