Applications are invited for the Postgraduate programme in Bioinformatics from motivated women graduates with a good academic record, from any branch of science. The last date for on-line application submission is June 16, 2017.
About the College:
Stella Maris College is a Catholic institution of higher education for women in Chennai, India. It was founded on August 15, 1947. The College became autonomous in 1987 and is affiliated to the University of Madras. The College was re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade with a CGPA of 3.68 on a four point scale in 2014. The College has been recognised as “College with Potential for Excellence” by UGC in 2016.
About the Department:
The Department of Bioinformatics, established in 2002, seeks, in addition to teaching a globally relevant curriculum to develop research skills by providing facilities for Bioinformatics computing. We have a State-of-the-Art computational facility to foster interdisciplinary collaborative research in Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences.
The Department provides an integrated environment for drug design, modeling and simulation solutions for biomolecules, comparative modeling and docking, computational chemistry and genome analysis.
Software available in the laboratory:
- Molecular modeling programs-Macromodel from Schrodinger, Inc.
- Cheminformatics computing environment-Canvas from Schrodinger, Inc.
- Quantum chemistry programs-Jaguar from Schrodinger, Inc.
- MatLab – Bioinformatics Toolbox which provides tools for next-generation sequencing (NGS), microarray analysis, and sequence analysis.
Eligibility:
Only women candidates with more than 60% marks in any undergraduate degree in Botany/ Zoology/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Microbiology/ Mathematics and Computer Science or any branch of science or B.Tech/ BE/ MBBS from a recognised University/ Institution.

- Outstation students should come prepared to stay for two days. No TA/DA, accommodation or support will be available from the College.
- Candidates whose final results of the examination are awaited may still apply on the basis of the results of their last examination. However, their admission will be subject to their securing the qualifying marks in the final undergraduate examination.
Selection : Candidates will be selected based on a written test and interview.
