Name of the post: Assistant Pathologist

Job Role: Biological Assessment
Purpose:
- Develop, standardize and execute fungal, bacterial and viral disease screening protocols.
- Run the laboratory- Pathogen cultures collection, identification, purification, multiplication, maintenance/ preservation, lab equipment maintenance etc.
- Screening of breeding materials, hybrids against target disease as per the set protocol in controlled and field conditions
- Associate with the breeding and genetics team for identifying disease resistant sources / selections from segregating populations, marker development and validation in different disease resistant projects for the development of disease resistant hybrids
- Co-ordination with related departments (production, Product evaluation, sales) for services like disease diagnostics, recommending plant protection measures & its training.
- Co-ordination of multi- location disease screening trials/CP trials in the country with breeding, product evaluation and product biology teams
Accountabilities:
- To do the molecular testing on the field.
- Collect the data from field related to Trial.
- To study the molecule received from Global team
- Analyze the report & register the tested product to university before launch
- Test the product for disease under different climate & under different condition
- Do the trial test for crop protection
- To suggest the solution for the problem occurred in trial.
Eligibility:
3 – 5 years of relevant practical experience for disease screening of relevant crops and its execution, disease resistance and management, computer basics and stakeholder management.
Critical Knowledge:
- Basics of Plant Pathology, Disease identification, pathogen identification, laboratory techniques, pesticides, disease resistance, molecular biology disease management measures, Statistical tools.
- Pathology techniques – lab & field; artificial screening of germplasm & hybrids and breeding material; Computer skills; managerial ability; Good oral and written communication skills.
