Position Overview

Syngene is seeking an Associate Scientist – Digital Pathology to support digital pathology informatics and image analysis initiatives within the Discovery Biology & Translational Sciences team. The role focuses on developing and optimizing image analysis algorithms, deploying deep learning models, performing quantitative pathology assessments, and generating actionable insights from complex biological imaging data.

The ideal candidate will combine expertise in computational image analysis, machine learning, pathology informatics, and data analytics while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams comprising pathologists, scientists, and bioinformaticians.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Pathology & Image Analysis

  • Design, develop, and optimize image analysis algorithms using digital pathology software platforms.
  • Perform quantitative analysis of immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining, including:
    • Tumor and stromal tissue classification
    • Cellular segmentation
    • Feature extraction
    • Biomarker quantification
  • Develop robust image processing workflows for pathology applications.
  • Support image-derived data generation for translational and discovery research programs.

Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning

  • Develop, train, validate, and deploy deep learning models for image analysis applications.
  • Work with advanced AI architectures including:
    • Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs)
    • Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs)
    • Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)
    • Transformer-based models
  • Evaluate model performance, limitations, and applicability for pathology datasets.
  • Implement automated workflows for image classification, object detection, and feature extraction.

Programming & Data Analytics

  • Utilize Python programming for:
    • Image processing
    • Workflow automation
    • Data manipulation
    • Model development
  • Perform statistical analysis and data visualization using:
    • Python
    • R
    • MATLAB
    • Power BI
  • Generate meaningful biological insights from image-derived datasets.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Document algorithms, methodologies, workflows, analyses, and results in accordance with organizational quality standards.
  • Maintain detailed records to support scientific reproducibility and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project summaries.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate closely with pathologists, biologists, data scientists, and image analysts across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in project discussions and scientific review meetings.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of image analysis pipelines and best practices.
  • Share technical knowledge and mentor team members where appropriate.

Educational Qualification

Candidates should possess:

  • Ph.D. in:
    • Bioinformatics
    • Biological Sciences
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Or a related discipline
  • OR
  • Master’s degree in the above-mentioned disciplines with relevant industry experience.

Experience Requirements

Ph.D. with 1–2 years of relevant experience
