Position Overview
Export Inspection Agency – Chennai (EIA Chennai) is inviting applications for the position of Research Fellow under the project “Proficiency Testing Scheme in Microbiology for Food Safety Criteria Assessment.”
The selected candidate will support microbiology proficiency testing activities, laboratory quality assurance programs, and food safety assessment initiatives. The role requires expertise in microbiology laboratory operations, international laboratory standards, proficiency testing schemes, and scientific data management.
This is a project-based contractual position and does not confer any claim for permanent employment within EIA Chennai or the Export Inspection Council.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation and execution of microbiology proficiency testing programs.
- Participate in food safety criteria assessment activities under the project framework.
- Perform microbiological testing, analysis, and interpretation of laboratory data.
- Assist in the preparation, coordination, and evaluation of proficiency testing samples and reports.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory quality systems and international standards.
- Maintain laboratory records, technical documentation, and project-related data.
- Support laboratory accreditation and quality assurance activities.
- Follow standard operating procedures and laboratory safety requirements.
- Contribute to technical reporting and project deliverables.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders and laboratory personnel to ensure successful project execution.
Educational Qualification
Essential Qualifications
- Postgraduate Degree in Microbiology.
- Minimum three years of experience working in the field of microbiology.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in proficiency testing services in microbiology.
- Knowledge and practical exposure to ISO/IEC 17043:2023 standards.
- Experience in food microbiology laboratories, quality assurance systems, or laboratory accreditation processes.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing relevant proficiency testing experience and demonstrated technical expertise.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in microbiology.
- Experience in laboratory testing, quality systems, food microbiology, or proficiency testing programs.
- Familiarity with laboratory standards and regulatory requirements governing microbiological testing.
Compensation
Consolidated Monthly Remuneration: ₹40,000 per month
No additional allowances, benefits, provident fund, gratuity, or other employee benefits applicable to regular employees will be provided.
Age Limit
Maximum 30 years as on 01 July 2026.
Age relaxation will be applicable as per Government of India rules.
Employment Terms for Govt Microbiology Job
- The position is purely contractual and project-based.
- Initial appointment will be for one year, extendable annually based on performance and project continuation.
- The engagement may continue for up to three years or until project completion, whichever is earlier.
- Working hours: 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
- The selected candidate shall not undertake any other employment or assignment during the contract period.
