Position Overview

PI Industries is seeking a Research Scientist – Plant Biochemistry to support early discovery and screening programs within its Biologicals R&D division. The role focuses on the identification, biochemical characterization, and mechanistic evaluation of peptides, biomolecules, and microbial-derived compounds for agricultural applications.

The scientist will contribute to the development of innovative biological solutions for crop protection, crop growth enhancement, nutrient use efficiency, and abiotic stress management. This position requires strong expertise in biochemistry, assay development, experimental design, and data interpretation, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary research teams.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of the Biologicals R&D strategy through the identification and characterization of novel peptides and biomolecules for agricultural applications.
  • Contribute to portfolio development by conducting primary biochemical screening and prioritization of candidate molecules.
  • Assist in building proprietary knowledge related to peptide and biomolecule modes of action and biochemical assay platforms.
  • Align research activities with organizational innovation objectives, project milestones, and business goals.

Research & Laboratory Operations

  • Develop, optimize, and validate biochemical screening assays to evaluate:
    • Plant defense activation pathways
    • Plant hormone production
    • Stress mitigation mechanisms
    • Enzyme inhibition activities
  • Conduct high-throughput screening of:
    • Peptides
    • Proteins
    • Secondary metabolites
    • Microbial-derived biomolecules
  • Evaluate candidate molecules for applications in:
    • Crop protection
    • Crop growth promotion
    • Nutrient use efficiency
    • Abiotic stress management
  • Design statistically robust experiments to ensure reliability, reproducibility, and efficiency.
  • Execute laboratory experiments with high scientific rigor and accuracy.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and ensure data integrity standards are consistently followed.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental results using appropriate statistical and visualization tools.
  • Maintain contamination-free laboratory practices and ensure adherence to laboratory safety standards.

Sample & Inventory Management

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and traceability of peptides, biomolecules, reagents, and microbial materials.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of long-term storage systems for biomolecules and reference standards.
  • Assist with procurement planning and inventory management of laboratory reagents, consumables, and materials.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with scientific characterization and PPS teams to establish and conduct mechanistic studies using biochemical tools.
  • Support the Early Research team by contributing to screening and discovery experiments as required.
  • Integrate biochemical findings with microbiological and molecular datasets to generate meaningful biological insights.
  • Communicate technical findings effectively to multidisciplinary teams across global locations.
  • Contribute to technical reviews, scientific presentations, and project discussions through clear and concise data reporting.

Educational Qualification

Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Biochemistry or a closely related discipline with a strong focus on Biochemistry from a recognized university or institute.

  • Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) analysis

    • Salicylic Acid (SA)

Molecular Biology Techniques
