Applications are invited from eligible and motivated candidates for two (02) Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions in a Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India-funded research project under the supervision of Dr Prashant Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi.

Project Details

  • Project Title: Integrating Phylogenomics and Metabolomics: A Polyphasic Approach to Heterocytous Cyanobacterial Systematics and Functional Characterisation
  • Funding Agency: Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India
  • Host Laboratory: Laboratory of Cyanobacterial Systematics and Stress Biology, Department of Botany, Institute of Science, BHU, Varanasi
  • Project Duration: 3 Years
  • Position: Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the isolation and cultivation of heterocytous cyanobacteria.
  • Perform polyphasic characterisation using morphological, molecular, phylogenomic, and metabolomic approaches.
  • Conduct field sampling and laboratory experiments.
  • Perform data analysis and interpretation.
  • Prepare research reports and scientific publications.
  • Support ongoing research activities in the DBT-funded project.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • JRF/NET/GATE qualification.
  • M.Sc. degree in:
    • Botany
    • Microbiology
    • Biotechnology
    • Biochemistry

  • Minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade.

Experience

Preference will be given to candidates having practical experience in:

Fellowship

  • ₹37,000 per month + 18% HRA (First two years as JRF)
