About the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB)

The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), functioning under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, serves as the apex body for the promotion, conservation, cultivation, sustainable harvesting, research, processing, and marketing of medicinal plants across the country.

NMPB plays a vital role in strengthening India’s traditional healthcare systems by supporting initiatives related to Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy. Through policy development, research promotion, capacity building, and coordination with State Governments, research institutions, universities, and industry stakeholders, the Board contributes significantly to the development of the medicinal plants sector.

To support its ongoing activities and strategic initiatives, NMPB invites applications from eligible officers for appointment to the following positions on a deputation basis, including short-term contract arrangements.

Deputy Adviser (Medicinal Plants) Officers under Central/State Governments, Union Territories, Universities, Recognized Research Institutions, Public Sector Undertakings, Semi-Government, Autonomous or Statutory Organizations who:

• Hold an analogous post on a regular basis in the parent cadre/department;

OR

• Have completed five years of regular service in Level-11 (₹67,700–₹2,08,700) or equivalent.

Educational Qualification:
Master’s Degree in Botany, Pharmacognosy, Agriculture, Agronomy, Forestry, or equivalent from a recognized University/Institute. 

Experience:
Minimum 10 years of post-qualification experience in research, development, policy formulation, programme implementation, and activities related to medicinal plants in government departments, organizations, or reputed institutions.

• Ph.D. in the relevant discipline from a recognized University/Institute.

• Knowledge of computer applications.

Deputation period, including previous ex-cadre deputation, shall ordinarily not exceed 4 years.

Maximum age: 56 years as on the closing date of application.

Assistant Adviser (Botany) Officers under Central/State Governments, Autonomous Bodies, or Statutory Organizations who:

• Hold an analogous post on a regular basis;

OR

• Have five years of regular service in Level-9 (₹53,100–₹1,67,800) or equivalent;

OR

• Have eight years of regular service in Level-6 (₹35,400–₹1,12,400) or equivalent.

Educational Qualification:
Master’s Degree in Botany or Pharmacognosy from a recognized University.Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in the development and propagation of medicinal plants, particularly those used in Ayurveda, Unani, and Homoeopathy systems of medicine.
• Ph.D. in Botany or Pharmacognosy.

• Published research work in relevant areas.

Deputation period shall ordinarily not exceed 3 years.

Maximum age: 56 years as on the closing date of application.

Research Officer (Botany) Officers of the Central Government who:

• Hold an analogous post on a regular basis;

OR

• Have three years of regular service in Level-6 (₹35,400–₹1,12,400);

OR

• Have eight years of regular service in Level-5 (₹29,200–₹92,300).

Educational Qualification:
Master’s Degree in Botany or Pharmacy (with Pharmacognosy as the main subject) from a recognized University.Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience in identification of medicinal plants and drugs used in Indian Systems of Medicine.
Knowledge of pharmacopoeial standards and taxonomical identification of medicinal plants. Deputation period shall ordinarily not exceed 3 years.

Maximum age: 56 years as on the closing date of application.

Assistant Research Officer Officers under Central/State Governments, Union Territories, Universities, Recognized Research Institutes, PSUs, Semi-Government, Autonomous or Statutory Organizations who:

• Hold an analogous post on a regular basis;

OR

• Have three years of regular service in Level-6 (₹35,400–₹1,12,400);

OR

• Have six years of regular service in Level-5 (₹29,200–₹92,300).

Educational Qualification:
Master’s Degree in Botany, Pharmacognosy, Forestry, Agriculture, Horticulture, Medicinal Plants, Biotechnology, or Pharmacy (with Pharmacognosy as a major subject) from a recognized University/Institute.Additional Requirement:
Knowledge of computer operations.

  • Appointments will be governed by the provisions contained in DoPT Office Memorandum No. 2/29/91-Estt.(Pay-II) dated 05.01.1994 and subsequent amendments.
