About the Position
Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU), Gandhinagar, invites applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under a sponsored research project funded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Government of India.
The selected candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research focused on environmental biotechnology, microbial biofilms, and bioremediation technologies aimed at restoring petrochemical-contaminated water systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on microbial biofilms and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS).
- Perform pollutant profiling and environmental sample analysis.
- Assist in bioremediation studies involving petrochemical-contaminated water.
- Carry out laboratory experiments using analytical and molecular techniques.
- Analyze research data and prepare scientific reports.
- Maintain laboratory records and support project documentation.
- Collaborate with project investigators and research partners.
- Participate in research visits and collaborative activities at partner institutions.
Essential Qualification
M.Tech. or M.Sc. in Biotechnology or a relevant Life Sciences discipline. Minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognized university.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will be preferred:
- Bacterial biofilm research
- Pollutant profiling from environmental samples

Fellowship and Tenure for JRF Vacancy
- Fellowship Amount: ₹37,000 per month (as per DAE norms)
- House Rent Allowance (HRA): Subject to approval by BRNS
- Initial Appointment: 1 year
- Extension: Renewable annually based on satisfactory performance, up to the project duration of 3 years
Collaborative Research Requirement
This project is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Sudhir Shukla, BARC Facilities, IGCAR-Kalpakkam.
The selected JRF will be required to:
- Visit IGCAR-Kalpakkam multiple times during the project period.
- Undertake extended research visits ranging from 3 to 6 months as required for successful completion of project objectives.
