About the Position
The Department of Life Sciences at GITAM University, Bengaluru, is seeking a highly motivated Junior Research Fellow (JRF) to work on a fully funded DBT Emerging Frontiers in Biotechnology research project. The selected candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research focused on understanding viral RNA translation mechanisms and developing potential broad-spectrum antiviral strategies.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain advanced research experience in molecular biology, RNA biology, biochemistry, proteomics, and therapeutic development, while working in a collaborative research environment with potential pathways toward doctoral research.
Project Overview
The project aims to investigate a recently identified viral RNA element in SARS-CoV-2 that resembles a human RNA element and enhances translation through interaction with an unconventional host multiprotein complex. The research seeks to determine the prevalence of this mechanism across medically important RNA viruses and evaluate whether these molecular interactions can be targeted for the development of broad-spectrum antiviral therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory-based research in molecular and cellular biology.
- Investigate RNA-mediated translation activation mechanisms in RNA viruses.
- Perform molecular biology, RNA biology, biochemistry, and proteomics experiments.
- Support the development and evaluation of therapeutic peptide approaches.
- Collaborate with internal and external research partners.
- Maintain accurate research records and contribute to scientific publications.
- Participate in collaborative research activities and scientific discussions.
Eligibility Criteria
Essential Qualification
Postgraduate degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in:
- Life Sciences
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Biochemistry
- Microbiology
- Biotechnology
- Related allied disciplines
Preferred Qualification: NET/GATE qualification.
Desired Skills and Experience
Candidates with experience in any of the following areas will have an advantage:
