Position Overview

The Computational Technology and Medicine (CMT) Laboratory, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Bombay, invites applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a biomedical device development project.

The selected candidate will contribute to the design, fabrication, testing, and validation of low-cost biomedical devices. The role involves hands-on engineering and experimental work, including development of testing setups, prototype fabrication, performance evaluation, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop low-cost biomedical devices and experimental systems.
  • Assist in the fabrication and validation of device prototypes.
  • Develop and maintain experimental setups for biomedical testing.
  • Perform pressure and flow measurements and analyze experimental data.
  • Create and modify CAD models for device components and assemblies.
  • Conduct prototype testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Support technical documentation, reporting, and project-related activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on biomedical engineering research and development.

Eligibility Criteria

Category Details
Educational Qualification B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Related engineering disciplines
Additional Requirement Candidates must possess either:

  • An M.Tech/M.E. degree, or
  • A valid GATE qualification
Academic Status Applicants must have completed all degree requirements prior to joining the position.


Desired Skills

Candidates with experience or knowledge in the following areas will be preferred:

  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Vibrations and Oscillations
  • CAD Modeling and Mechanical Design
  • 3D Printing and Prototype Fabrication
  • Embedded Systems and Microcontrollers, including:
    • Arduino
    • ESP32
    • Raspberry Pi
    • Similar hardware platforms

Compensation

Component Details
Monthly Fellowship ₹25,000 – ₹30,000
House Rent Allowance (HRA) 24% of fellowship amount
Total Benefits Fellowship plus applicable HRA as per project norms


Project Duration

Initial appointment will be for one year. Continuation will be subject to project requirements and satisfactory performance.

PhD Opportunity

Based on the candidate’s performance, research aptitude, and alignment with ongoing laboratory projects, an opportunity to pursue a PhD at IIT Bombay may be considered in accordance with institute rules and admission requirements.
