Key Responsibilities
- Strain Engineering & Media Optimization
Screen and select high-performing bacterial, yeast, or fungal strains for targeted metabolic traits. Design DoE (Design of Experiments) matrices to screen and optimize complex culture media formulations. Evaluate metabolic pathways and nutrient consumption rates to maximize specific growth and product yields. - Bench-Scale Fermentation & Process Development
Program and run parallel benchtop bioreactors from Flask to 4L automated systems. Develop feeding strategies, including batch, fed-batch, and continuous processes, to optimize biomass and metabolite production. Map fermentation kinetics by tracking real-time variables like carbon dioxide evolution, oxygen uptake, and pH. - Data Analysis & Assay Development
Assist the analytical team in tracing metabolites using the latest analytical tools, spectrophotometry, or dry cell weight assays. Build predictive scale-up models to transition processes from laboratory to pilot plant successfully. Maintain detailed journal writing of experimental parameters with IP-compliant electronic lab notebooks (ELN). - Innovation & Collaboration
Review scientific literature regularly to integrate advanced bioprocess methodologies. Collaborate with genetic engineering teams and purification specialists for upstream and downstream process development. Present research findings and recommendations to leadership and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or related fields.

Experience Required
- 3–5 years of R&D laboratory experience operating programmable small-scale bioreactors.
- Minimum 3+ years of work experience with Microbiology.

- Knowledge of statistical software such as JMP and Minitab.
