Role Overview
The Young Professional–II (YP-II) will support research activities under the externally funded ICAR EFC – Genome Editing Project. The role focuses on plant biotechnology and genome editing research, particularly involving rice transformation, molecular biology techniques, and physiological characterization of transgenic plants. The selected candidate will contribute to laboratory research, molecular experimentation, data generation, and project execution while working collaboratively with the research team.
The appointment is purely temporary, contractual, and co-terminus with the project.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Biotechnology and Genome Editing Research
- Supports research activities related to plant biotechnology and genome editing.
- Performs Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of rice.
- Conducts molecular cloning experiments and associated laboratory procedures.
- Performs molecular characterization of transgenic plants using standard molecular biology techniques.
- Carries out physiological analysis of transgenic plants to evaluate experimental outcomes.
- Assists in optimizing laboratory protocols and experimental workflows.
Laboratory Research and Documentation
- Maintains accurate laboratory notebooks, research records, and experimental documentation.
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets experimental data.
- Assists in preparing scientific reports, research summaries, and project documentation.
- Ensures proper maintenance of laboratory materials, reagents, and research equipment.
- Follows institutional laboratory safety and quality protocols during all experimental activities.
Collaboration and Project Support
- Works collaboratively with principal investigators and project team members to achieve research objectives.
- Contributes to ongoing genome editing and plant biotechnology research initiatives.
- Supports timely completion of project milestones and deliverables.
Educational Requirements
- Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Plant Physiology
- Plant Biotechnology
- Plant Biochemistry
- Related Life Science disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in:
- Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of rice.
- Molecular cloning techniques.
- Molecular analysis of transgenic plants.
- Physiological evaluation of transgenic plants.
- Prior research experience in plant biotechnology, molecular biology, or genome editing laboratories is desirable.
- Qualification in national-level examinations (NET/GATE or equivalent), where applicable, is advantageous.
Compensation
- Monthly Consolidated Fellowship: ₹42,000
- No House Rent Allowance (HRA) is provided.
Age Criteria
- Maximum age:
- 40 years for male candidates
- Age relaxation of 5 years for women and candidates belonging to SC, ST, and OBC categories as per Government of India and ICAR regulations.
Appointment Details
- The position is purely temporary and contractual.
- Initial appointment is for six months or until completion of the project, whichever is earlier.
- The tenure may be extended based on satisfactory performance and project requirements.
- The fellowship is co-terminus with the project and does not confer any claim to permanent employment within the institute.
- Re-engagement after completion or termination of the project is not permitted.
- Unsatisfactory performance may result in termination with one month’s notice.
