About the Role
Optum is seeking a Medical Coder – IP DRG to support inpatient coding operations using ICD-10 and PCS coding systems. The role involves ensuring coding accuracy, compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining productivity and quality benchmarks in accordance with client service-level agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities
- Perform inpatient medical record coding using ICD-10 and PCS coding standards with high accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and healthcare data privacy standards.
- Identify and evaluate inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies in medical records and escalate issues appropriately.
- Meet defined productivity, quality, and turnaround-time targets as per SLAs.
- Report discharge disposition details according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines.
- Apply coding conventions and official coding guidelines established by the:
- American Hospital Association
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
- Maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards in line with KRAs and client requirements.
- Adhere to company policies, operational procedures, and evolving business requirements.
Required Qualifications
Educational Qualification
Graduate or Postgraduate in Life Sciences
Certification Requirements
Candidates must hold certifications from recognized coding organizations such as:
- AAPC
- AHIMA
Accepted certifications include:

Experience
