About the Role
Microcrispr Pvt. Ltd. (Meril) is looking for a skilled and research-oriented IPR Specialist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience in intellectual property research, patent analytics, and portfolio management within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. This role will work closely with R&D and business teams to provide strategic IP insights, support innovation initiatives, and strengthen the organization’s patent portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Patentability, Freedom to Operate (FTO), Invalidity/Validity searches, and technology landscape studies.
- Prepare competitive intelligence reports, whitespace analysis, and patent watch updates.
- Manage patent portfolio activities including filing, prosecution, and coordination with external IP attorneys and partners.
- Support R&D teams through prior-art searches, patent mapping, and IP awareness/training sessions.
- Perform market research and non-patent literature analysis for new product development.
- Analyze patent trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies in biotech and pharmaceutical domains.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely handling of IP-related activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support innovation and product strategy.
Required Skills
- Strong experience with patent databases such as Orbit, PatSeer, PatBase, and TotalPatent One.
- Good understanding of patent law, search methodologies, and the complete IP lifecycle.
- Experience in patent prosecution and portfolio management.
- Ability to prepare concise analytical reports and present findings to R&D and leadership teams.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Educational Qualification
- Master’s degree or PhD in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Candidates with certification or specialization in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) or Patent Analytics will be preferred.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Prior experience in biotech or pharmaceutical IP research.
- Familiarity with global patent filing procedures and prosecution.
- Strong technical understanding of biotechnology innovations and research trends.
- Internship experience in patent analytics or IP-related roles will be considered for freshers.
