In the Aspire category, candidates will also receive Rs 1,40,000 (2,40,000 yen) per month for up to 36 months. The yearly joint supervision support is higher at Rs 8,80,000 (1.5 million yen). Overall, the total support under Aspire can reach up to Rs 25.6 lakh per year, making LOTUS Programme funding especially attractive.
How to Apply
Applicants must apply through a Principal Investigator (PI) at a Japanese university or research institution. Direct applications from students or institutions in India are not accepted. Candidates can apply multiple times under the Basic LOTUS programme and may later move to Aspire. The maximum age limit is 40 years. Important Dates to Remember
The last date to apply is June 9, 2026. The selection process will take place from June to August 2026, and final results will be announced from late August onwards. Selected candidates will start their research from October 2026 as part of the new LOTUS Programme intake.
