Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D. Program (Semester 2, 2024-2025) in interdisciplinary areas of Life Sciences

IBAB is an autonomous institution set up by the Department of Electronics, IT, BT, and S&T of the Government of Karnataka in 2001. Over the last 23 years, it has grown into a world-class institution offering educational programs in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, and Big Data Biology. IBAB has established excellent facilities in both computational and experimental life sciences and houses state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, including Graphical Processing Units (GPU) servers, High-end workstations, High-capacity network and storage facilities, Well-equipped bioscience laboratories for experimental work. The Institute has well-qualified faculty with international experience and offers Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral programs in frontier areas of interdisciplinary life sciences.

Research Areas

1. Disease Genomics, Epigenomics, Pharmacogenomics, and Multi Omic Integration (Cancer, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Stroke, Malaria, Metabolic Disorders, Ageing, Spermatogenesis) for biomarker discovery
2. Single Cell-Sequencing and Spatial Transcriptomics
3. Synthetic and Systems Biology
4. Photoprotection mechanisms in biomolecules
5. Graph Algorithms and Information Theory for modeling biological states (using AI/ML)
6. Structural Bioinformatics and Computational Drug Design using AI
7. Multimodal Data Integration for Biomarker Discovery using AI/ML
8. Plant Genomics

Eligibility

Candidates with a B.Tech./ B.E. or equivalent, or a Master’s Degree in any branch of Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science and Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine, Physics, or Chemistry, with a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.0 in their qualifying examination.

Selection Procedure

• National-level Online Entrance Test followed by an interview for shortlisted candidates at IBAB, Bangalore.

• Candidates shortlisted for the interview shall make travel arrangements at their own cost.

Stipend / Fellowship

• IBAB strongly encourages students with their own fellowships (CSIR-UGC, DST-INSPIRE, DBT-JRF, and ICMR-JRF) to apply to the Ph.D. program.
• Three meritorious female students will be provided attractive industry-sponsored fellowships under the SynRISE (Syngene Research In Science Excellence) initiative of the Syngene CSR.
• Exceptional candidates without a fellowship or a valid GATE score shall be provided with a competitive assistantship by the Institute.
