Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU), the India’s first biotechnology university, is located on a 23 Acre of Land near GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Funded by the Government of Gujarat’s Department of Science & Technology, GBU offers MSc programmes in five biotechnology domains with a focus on delivering biotech solutions for societal challenges.

MSc Biotechnology Programme
Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU), in collaboration with the prestigious University of Edinburgh, is now inviting applications for the MSc Biotechnology programme for the academic year 2024. This programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in biotechnology, preparing them for a variety of challenging and rewarding careers in the field.
Duration of the Programme: 2 years
Admission Eligibility: Admissions will be based on Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B) score. The remaining seats may be filled through scores from IIT-JAM and CUET (PG) examinations.
MSc Biotechnology Programme Features
The MSc Biotechnology programme at GBU offers advanced education and training in biotechnology, with a strong emphasis on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Specializations: Students can choose from five specialized programmes — Animal Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, and Plant Biotechnology.
Each specialization is tailored to equip students with in-depth knowledge and skills pertinent to their chosen field.
Research Opportunities: Each year, 25 students will have the opportunity to undertake a fully funded 3-month research visit to the University of Edinburgh, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat. This unique experience allows students to engage in cutting-edge research under the guidance of leading experts.
Highly-Experienced Faculty: The programme is taught by faculty members with extensive national and international experience. Additionally, students will benefit from guest lectures and training sessions conducted by visiting faculty from the University of Edinburgh.
Monthly Stipend: All students enrolled in the programme will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000, which includes Rs. 5,000 allocated for hostel accommodation.
Emphasis on Entrepreneurship: The curriculum is designed to highlight the translational and entrepreneurial aspects of biotechnology, encouraging students to develop innovative solutions and business ideas in the biotech sector.
State-of-the-Art Facilities: Students will have access to advanced research facilities and equipment, including DNA sequencing, high-resolution mass spectrometry, advanced microscopy, computational biology, and more. These resources ensure that students receive hands-on training in the latest biotechnological techniques.
