Hey there, looking for some possible interview questions and answers for the post of Project Associate at IISER Tirupati? Then check below

  1. Can you tell us about your experience in yeast genetics and molecular techniques? How have you applied these skills in your previous work?
    • Answer: I have worked extensively with yeast genetics and molecular techniques during my research projects. I have conducted gene knockout experiments, performed DNA extraction and purification, and used techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis for gene analysis. Additionally, I have experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data to identify genetic variations and study gene expression patterns.
  2. Have you worked with next-generation sequencing data analysis before? Could you explain the steps involved in analyzing such data?
    • Answer: Yes, I have experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data. The analysis involves several steps. Firstly, the raw sequencing data is processed by removing adapter sequences and low-quality reads. Then, the processed reads are aligned to a reference genome. After alignment, variant calling is performed to identify genetic variations. Finally, functional annotation and interpretation of the variants are carried out to understand their potential impact on gene function.
  3. How comfortable are you with working in a research project focused on DNA breakage and repair in meiosis? Can you discuss any relevant coursework or projects you have undertaken in this area?
    • Answer: I am highly interested and comfortable working in a research project focused on DNA breakage and repair in meiosis. During my M.Sc program, I took specialized coursework in genetics and cell biology, which covered topics related to DNA repair mechanisms. Additionally, I have worked on a research project where I investigated the role of specific genes involved in DNA repair during meiosis using yeast as a model organism.
  4. Have you been involved in any collaborative research projects or worked in a team environment? How did you contribute to the team’s success?
    • Answer: Yes, I have actively participated in collaborative research projects and have experience working in a team environment. In one project, I collaborated with colleagues to design and execute experiments, share data and findings, and collectively analyze the results. My contribution included conducting experiments, analyzing data, and presenting our findings during team meetings. I also actively contributed to discussions and provided valuable insights to solve research challenges.
  5. Are you familiar with any specific techniques or tools used in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data? Can you explain their significance and how you have utilized them in your previous work?
    • Answer: I am familiar with various techniques and tools used in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data. One important tool is the Genome Alignment/Mapping tool, which aligns the short reads to a reference genome to identify their origin and location. Another significant tool is Variant Calling, which identifies genetic variations such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and insertions/deletions (indels). I have utilized these tools in my previous work to study genetic variations associated with specific traits in different organisms.

Note: The answers provided are just examples and can be tailored based on the candidate’s actual experience and knowledge.
