JRF POSITIONS AVAILABLE UNDER DBT SPONSORED PROJECT

Positions available for two Junior Research Fellows under DBT sponsored project for NER entitled “Isolation, identification and synthesis of pheromones of major looper pest of tea Hyposidra talaca Walker for the development of pheromone based management strategy” at Entomology Department of Tocklai Tea Research Institute, Tea Research Association, Jorhat-785008, Assam.

Essential Qualification for JRF: First class M.Sc. degree in Life Sciences

/ Agriculture with or without NET qualification. Knowledge in computer applications and bio statistics will be preferred.

Monthly Fellowship:

  • Rs. 31,000/- + 8% HRA per month with NET
  • Rs. 25,000/- + 8% HRA per month without NET

Project duration: Up to March 2024.

Age limit: Up to 28 years (As per existing DBT rules).

The appointments will be purely on contractual basis and hence the Institute will not
provide any employment after completion of the project.

  1. The above post is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project.

  3. Only shortlisted candidate will be called for interview. No TA/DA or any other expenses will be provided for attending the interview.
  4. All other terms and conditions of appointment will be governed by prevailing Institute rules and decision of the Chairman of the Selection Committee will be final and binding.
  5. Selected candidates need to join immediately or at very short notice.
  6. The Director, Tocklai Tea Research Institute, Jorhat, Assam reserves all rights of selection or rejection of a candidature including cancellation of the interview without assigning any reason thereof.

    Answer: I am very comfortable using various computer applications, and I have experience in working with statistical software such as SPSS and R for data analysis.

    Answer: During my M.Sc., I have worked on a project related to insect pheromones and their identification using GC-MS analysis. I have also completed a project on insect pest management using pheromones.
  4. What is your understanding of the objectives of the project?
    Answer: The project aims to develop a pheromone-based management strategy for the major looper pest of tea, Hyposidra talaca Walker, by identifying and synthesizing the pest’s pheromones. This will help in the development of a more sustainable and effective pest management strategy.
  5. Can you explain how you would approach the project’s research design and methodology?
    Answer: The research design would involve the collection of the pest’s pheromones using various techniques such as trapping and identification using GC-MS analysis. I would also design experiments to determine the pest’s response to the pheromones and test the effectiveness of the pheromone-based management strategy. The methodology would involve the use of statistical software for data analysis and interpretation of the results.
