The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of wildlife research, teaching and training. The Institute invites applications from Indian nationals for the position of Senior Research Fellow (1 No.) and Junior Research Fellow (1 No.) Details of the positions along with essential and desirable qualifications, brief description of work, age criteria and monthly fellowships are given in Annexure-1.

A. Implementing Rhino DNA Indexing System to counter Rhino poaching threat and aid population management in India- Phase II

Post I

Position Name: Senior Research Fellow

No. of posts – 01

Upper age limit – 32

Essential Qualification (EQ):  Minimum of 60% marks in M.Sc. in Zoology, Wildlife Science, Forestry, Life Science and other biological sciences with a minimum of 3 years of research experience in the field of non-invasive molecular ecology/conservation genetics and publication in this field of research.

Desirable Qualification (DQ): Candidates with prior research experiences with molecular work on faecal samples will be given preference.

Work description: The selected candidate will be working on this project involving both field and laboratory research. The job involves conducting fieldwork to collect wild rhino samples, data generation from these as well as already collected samples, data curation, analysis and helping in report writing. The selected candidate will also require to work on rhino forensic cases and help with regular functioning of the project.

Emoluments & Location: Rs. 35,000/- + HRA

Position Name: Junior Research Fellow

Upper age limit – 28

Essential Qualification (EQ): Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Zoology/ Ecology/Forestry/Life Sciences/Biotechnology/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification (DQ):

a. Candidates with a keen interest in field-oriented wildlife/snake research, good analytical,
molecular genetic aspects and communication skills.
b. Working experience in GIS
c. Candidates interested in pursuing PhD from the project are encouraged to apply

Work description:

  • The work involves carrying out field research and a survey of Reticulated pythons in a remote area of the Nicobar Islands, molecular genetics, data compilation, analysis and report writing.
  • In addition, baseline data (Primary/Secondary) collection for the project includes field/questionnaire surveys for people’s perceptions towards snakes, anthropogenic impacts on wildlife and their habitats in the study area.
  • The only candidates who are willing to work in an arduous field conditions in remote locations of the Nicobar Islands with limited logistic support need to apply

Emoluments & Location: 31000 + HRA

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The initial period of recruitment will be for one year which may be extended depending on the candidate’s performance and the project needs. The work description, essential and desirable qualifications, age (as of the date of advertisement) and monthly emoluments for the required position are given in Annexure – 1.

How to Apply

MODE OF SELECTION

  1. Selection for positions will be based on an online written essay and/or multiple-choice questions (MCQ) followed by a personal interview conducted through video conferencing.
  2. The online written exam will be for one hour and comprise of a 300-word essay and MCQs based on the knowledge of Ecology, Conservation Biology, Sampling techniques, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Forestry, Environmental Science, Wildlife Sciences and their application in wildlife conservation and relevant conservation issues.
  3. The candidates that qualify the written essay and whose applications are selected will be notified through our website (www.wii.gov.in) and email for the personal interview.
  4. All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of joining for necessary verification. If there will be any discrepancy in the document submitted at the time of verification, the selection of the candidate will be cancelled.
  5. The written test is of a qualifying nature and only the shortlisted candidates will be called for the personal interview. The final selection of the candidate will be in accordance with the performance in the interview and in order of merit as decided by the Interview Committee.

REGISTRATION

  1. The entire process for registration shall be “Online”. Details for online registration and test will be hosted on the WII’s website (http://www.wii.gov.in/) under the recruitment section. Online Registration will close on 12 February 2023, which is the last date for receipt of the application. Registration fees of Rs. 500 will be charged.
  2. All eligible interested candidates are advised to follow the latest updates on WII’s website (http://www.wii.gov.in/) under the recruitment section for the online registration link.
  3. Candidates will be required to enter their personal, educational and professional experience profiles online besides uploading a recent passport-size photograph.
  4. Candidates must mention the Project Position applied for in their applications.

WRITTEN EXAM

  1. The examination shall be conducted on 19 February 2023.
  2. The examination shall be conducted in 10 cities which are Bengaluru, Bhopal, Lucknow, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. WII reserves the right to change examination cities if required
  3. Detailed instructions about the examination procedure will be communicated via email to the candidates

General Terms and conditions

  1. Incomplete applications/applications sent by Post are liable to be rejected.
  2. Mere fulfilment of the minimum advertised qualification and experience requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be called for an interview. The decision of the Institute in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of the application, and mode of selection will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained from any individual or his / her agency.
  3. Candidates not in possession of the final year mark sheet will not be eligible to apply.
  4. At the time of the verification of original documents or even after selection, if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection and due action will be taken.
  5. Age relaxation: Relaxation in upper age shall be allowed in accordance with the Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel & Training)OM NO. 1501282/2010-Estt.(D) dated 27.03.2012 as amended from time to time.
  6. The Director WII, reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason thereof.
