Advertisement for engaging Project Personnel on a Contractual basis at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.

The Wildlife Institute of India is an internationally acclaimed Institution, which offers training programs for government and nongovernment personnel, academic courses and advisory in wildlife research and management. The Institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity-related issues.

The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun invites application forms for engaging the various Project Personnel under the following projects and their EQ, DQ, age, monthly emolument and other details of the Project Personnel are indicated against each post.

A. Project titled “Conserving Vital Connections Across Expanding Linear Infrastructure in a Transboundary Terai Arc” in India and Nepal.

Field Sites: Forest areas of Terai Arc landscape in India and Nepal.

Post I

Job Title:

Project Scientist I (Ecology)

No.of posts: One

Age: 35

Duration: Four Years

Salary: Rs.56,000 + HRA

Eligibility Criteria: (i) Master’s Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks. A minimum of eight (08) years of research experience in a relevant field after a Master’s degree is required. Publications in peer-reviewed journals in relevant fields.

Desirable qualification (DQ):

Desired Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) study design, fieldwork, data collection, statistical analysis and scientific writing, d) coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection, d) GIS experience e) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals.

Post II

Job Title: Project Associate I

No.of posts: Two (One position each for Indian and Nepalese nationals)

Age: 35

Duration: Four Years

Salary: Rs. 31000 + HRA

Eligibility Criteria: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences, GIS and Geoinformatics.

Desirable qualification (DQ): preferred experience/ aptitude in a) Animal ecology, field surveys, data collection through basic field techniques viz., camera trapping, animal sign surveys, distance sampling, basic data analysis, b) basic knowledge of statistical and GIS software c) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals.

B. Project titled “Assessment of fine-scale spatial and temporal use of key wildlife species in relation to ecological resources and suggest mitigation plan to ameliorate impacts due to upgradation of Harrawala railway station, extension/additional loop line for handling 24 coaches at enroute stations and increase of train speed to 100km/hr along Dehradun-Haridwar railway line passing through Dehradun Forest Division and Rajaji Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand”

Post III

Job Title: Project Scientist II (Ecologist) OR Project Scientist I (Ecologist)

No.of posts: One each

Age: 40 and 35 respectively

Duration: 6 months (extendable to 1 year)

Salary: Rs. 67,000 + HRA and Rs. 56,000 + HRA

Essential Qualification: (i) Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University, (ii) Minimum three (03) years relevant experience post PhD.

OR

Essential Qualification: Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University.

Desirable qualification (DQ):

Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) spatial analysis and ecological modelling, b) statistical analysis, c) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection c) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals.

Post IV

Job Title: Project Associate I

No.of posts: Six (Wildlife ecology, Plant Ecology, and Remote Sensing and GIS)

Age: 35 years

Duration: 9 months

Salary: Rs. 31,000.00 + HRA

Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences.

Desirable qualification (DQ): Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) Animal and Plant ecology; vegetation quantification, environment pollutant analysis; survey methodology and data analysis, spatial analysis and ecological modelling, b) statistical analysis, c) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection c) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals.

3. Optimization of elephant population estimation in western Rajaji National Park:

Field Sites: Forest areas of Dehradun and Haridwar

Salary: Rs. 35,000.00 + HRA or Rs. 31,000.00 + HRA

Duration: 12 months

Salary: Rs. 47,000.00 + HRA or Rs. 35,000 + HRA

Essential Qualification: Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University.

Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences and two years of experience in relevant field.

Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) spatial analysis and ecological modelling, b) statistical analysis, c) project design and coordination of the multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection c) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals.

Shortlisting of applicants for interview will be based on essential qualifications, age limit, NET/ GATE qualification, percentage of marks in bachelor’s and Master’s, specialization relevance in Masters, research experience (Publications, Paper Presented in Workshops/ Seminars/ Symposiums/ Conferences), SOP and extracurricular activities (as per WII rules).

(D) dated 27.03.2012 as amended from time to time. However, the categories of upper age relaxations are as follows: a. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes up to 5 years. b. Other Backward Class (OBC) up to 3 years.
  7. The positions advertised are purely temporary/ contractual for the project period only and will stand abolished after the completion of the project.
  8. The tenure of the project will be governed by the Institute’s rules and regulations.
  9. After the announcement of the results, the candidate should join the project immediately.
