Applicant must be qualified for Junior Research fellowship (JRF) to be eligible to apply through NET-JRF mode.

    Applicants applying through INSPIRE mode must have a valid provisional INSPIRE offer for consideration of their application at level II of the selection, issued by DST at the time of interview).

  • Applicants MUST indicate at least ONE DBS faculty as their choice while applying. Indicating more preferences (up to THREE faculties) is strongly recommended.

The following faculty are NOT taking students this time: Dr. Babu Sudhamalla; Dr. Partho Sarothi Ray; Dr. Purba Mukherjee; Prof. Tapas K. Sengupta; Dr. Amirul I. Mallick; Dr. Dipjyoti Das; Dr. Bidisha Sinha; Prof. Jayasri Das Sarma; Dr. Amit K. Mandal;

Selection of the candidates will be as per the GoI norms. Candidates belonging to the respective reserved category need to submit relevant certificates and documents.

Sponsored positions that do not require own fellowship:

A. Project-sponsored Ph.D. position:

A1. A project-funded Ph.D. position is available in the Integrative Taxonomy and Microbial Ecology Research Group (PI- Professor Punyasloke Bhadury) to work on the genomics and genetics of small indigenous fish species (SIS) of Northeast (e.g., Assam) and Odisha in India.

Essential qualifications: Master’s degree in Life Science/Zoology/Fisheries/Natural Science/Biotechnology/Environmental Science or Agricultural Science from a recognized University or equivalent with minimum 55% marks. Preference will be given to NET- LS/GATE/ICAR-NET or any other national exam qualified candidates Additional criteria: Experience in aquatic ecology, fieldwork exposure to freshwater ecosystems, basic knowledge in fish biology/taxonomy and genetics/genomics are highly desirable.
