Post I & II

Name of the Post – Project Scientist-I & Senior Research Fellow

No. of Posts – One position only

Name of the Project – “Establishment of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Center at NII, New Delhi with the theme of Structural Bioinformatics & Genome Mining (Applications in Biomedical Sciences)” funded by DBT

Interested candidates may apply directly, STRICTLY IN THE PRESCRIBED FORMAT GIVEN BELOW, through e-mail, to the Investigator of the project, clearly indicating the

name of the project along with their complete CV, contact details and three recommendation letters. All the necessary documents should be sent as one PDF file. The PDF file should be named as – ‘Name of applicant Position applied’. Only Short listed candidates will be called for an interview and they are required to submit, attested copies of all their certificates and a Demand Draft of Rs 100/- drawn on Canara Bank or Indian Bank payable at Delhi/New Delhi in favour of the Director, NII (SC/ST/PH and Women candidates are exempted from payment of fees, subject to submission of documentary proof), at the time of interview.

General Terms & Conditions

  1. The candidates selected for the above posts will be on contract for one year or the duration of the project whichever is shorter, at a time.
  2. A hostel/ housing facility will be provided for female candidates.
  3. Applicants may clearly mention the category they belong to i.e. SC/ST/OBC/PH and attach documentary proof of the same.
  4. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview if called for.
  5. Apart from sending applications in the prescribed format given below, candidates should send complete Curriculum Vitae along with the names of three referees. Curriculum Vitae should
    contain details of the experimental expertise and a list of publications.
  6. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.

For Post I

Emoluments – Rs. 56,000/- per month consolidated plus 24% HRA as per DST OM dated
10.07.2020.

Educational Qualifications – Ph.D. (Biotechnology or Biological sciences) (Degree must have been awarded).

Desirable – The candidate must have a very good understanding of various experimental techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, proteomics and metabolomics relevant for the identification of secondary metabolite biosynthetic pathways and research programs in chemical & synthetic biology. The candidate should also have experience in bioinformatics techniques like sequence analysis, protein structure prediction and analysis of NGS data. Very good publication record in areas relevant to the project and post-doctoral work experience in an interdisciplinary research environment is highly desirable.

Job description

The candidate will be a domain expert for the development of a database of secondary metabolite biosynthetic pathways based on literature curation for applications in synthetic biology & natural product discovery. Coordination with database/software developers. Organization of training programs in bioinformatics & NGS data analysis.

For Post II

Emoluments – Rs 35,000/- per month consolidated plus 24% HRA. Must have qualified NET qualification as per DST OM dated 30.01.2019.

Educational Qualifications – M.Sc.(Bioinformatics/Biophysics/ Biochemistry Biotechnology) or Masters degree in any other stream of biological/physical/computational sciences or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine or Equivalent AND a minimum of 2 years of research experience. Must have qualified NET JRF.

Desirable – Work experience in the area of Bioinformatics/IT/Computer Applications. Strong computer programming skills (in PERL/Python or C++ or object-oriented database management systems like MySQL etc or scripting languages under LINUX/UNIX environment) and sufficient experience in computational analysis of biological/biochemical data. Publications in the area of bioinformatics & Computational biology are highly desirable. The candidates must highlight their experience in programming and database development in their CV. 

Job description

Prediction and analysis of Protein structure and Analysis of Genome/Microbiome, Development of bioinformatics tools and software for Genome mining; Development of databases and software for genome analysis, installation/support of public domain software for structural bioinformatics in LINUX environment and system administration of computing/storage servers of Bioinformatics Center, NII.
